I was really meh on American Gods.
May I ask why? Since I nearly ordered the book this morning.
For what it's worth I thought American Gods was pretty great. It's got a real Sandman feel as well, what with dealing with questions of how belief shapes reality and what happens to legends when they get forgotten.

The only thing of his I liked is
Good Omens, and he's tried to distance himself for it as much as possible.
Really? That's odd. Did he hate the work itself or did he hate working with Pratchett?
Good Omens was published in 1990, before either of them were as well known as they are today. Neil had an idea for the story, shared it with Terry, he liked it and started adding to it, and the project kind of snowballed from there. They'd been friends for years. I think it's less "I don't want to associate myself with this piece of trash" and more "this was a dumb story we wrote because we felt like it, it's not really that special, everyone makes it out to be a much bigger deal because now we're both famous."
