Welcome to Gaia! ::

Well where to start. I'm a amateur comic creator lowest of the low(yeah I know I have a harsh opinion of myself.)Anyways what I usually do on my days off is create crossovers for all kinds of Cartoons from the classics to the current.I already know I have problems in pacing as well as rough art work.I just need a second opinion or something.It would be appreciated.Here is a few of the comics I have made in the past two years.

I just linked your links with minimal tagging. I would recommend that you do the same in the future.

Um... hm... I don't think I get them. Art's good, but... yeah, pacing, and I think the jokes need a little more work. It seems heavily referential, like... I get some of the things you're referencing, I just don't really find them funny, you know?

I'm not sure exactly what it is, what I'm expecting... I mean, I'll wholly admit I'm on the low end of the amateur comic spectrum too, but... I don't know...

It's really hard to explain humor, I guess. Have you tried having your friends read them? I mean, so long as you can make your friends laugh, I think that's all that matters, and my opinion is pretty much useless.

I mean, I've seen some of these cartoons, so I feel like I should be part of the target audience here, but... maybe I'm not. I mean, it does feel like it should maybe be for people younger than me anyway.

Er... sorry I wasn't more helpful. Comedy is a tricky thing, but like art, language, music, cooking, and just about everything else... all it takes is practice. Like I said, it's hard to explain, but once you know exactly what notes to hit, you start to catch it instinctively.

I literally laughed out loud at the Adventure Time With Derpy Hooves....

Derpy would make the best Astral Beast ever.

I actually understood all of these comics except for the Gravity Falls one, because I've never seen Gravity Falls. However, I did get the idea, and it was one of those moments of 'I bet if I saw this show, I would understand...'

So I have to agree with Xiam. The art is good, and people who get the references will find them all very funny, but if you want to get a larger audience, then you should branch out to more 'general' comedy.

Though it looks like you are reaching an audience that understands your humor, so I would say you're doing pretty well. That's more than some artists can say.

If this is your amateur work, then it is very good. The only thing I can really suggest is to branch off and do your own stuff instead of following the same cartoon art styles and crossover jokes.

If you just want to keep on how you're doing, though, I don't see a problem with that. The jokes I understood are pretty funny. It's either a specific kind of humor, or I'm just easily amused. lol

As to how to make yourself funnier/more entertaining, it depends on your type of humor. I would say your humor is more silly/goofy than anything else, (I didn't detect any dryness or sarcasm), so I would play off of that. Ask your friends who understand the references if there are any ways they can think of that could make the comic funnier or more easily understandable.

Yeah... the biggest breakout an artist can do is when they start doing original work.

Maybe I'm just sort of bitter about fanfiction, though, I've always been uncomfortable with the concept. Not sure why. Could be a whole pile of things wrong with fanfiction, haha.

Um, right, this though... anyway, yeah, I agree with the "playing to your strengths thing." Take your preferred brand of comedy, and hone it.
