Welcome to Gaia! ::

How unusual is this for someone who usually draws anime-type things?

my try at it (with a superhero character of my own creation) about three parts into a Stan Lee educational video: Stealing tablecloths

it's pretty basic from what I've seen, but useful. Also Stan Lee is cool.

Do note I've only read like one or two American comics for English class and am only doing this so I can create my own comic/graphic novel/thingamabobber

But how am I doing so far? Tips? Advice? Concrits? How do you feel about this project? :3

Well you are in a very wrong forum. Also continue your study on the Human anatomy.

? This forum is Anime/Manga/Comics. I would assume that does not only limit this forum to Japanese comics then? If I am in the wrong forum, then I apologize for doing so. I thought it would be okay.

I was also looking for discussion, not just critiques. Either way, my bad.

edit: Oh, crap, there is a forum for this. I just didn't see it because there wasn't a convenient link to it. So sorry!

I have studied anatomy, smartass. I do nude sketches, pose myself, look at others, etc.

It still looks very anime influenced. Is the comic you're wanting to create a superhero story? Because you don't nessecarily need to learn to draw in a more 'western style' to do a comic...Unless you're wanting to break into the industry or something.

The best thing you can do is take art classes and learn to draw the human body in a more realistic fashion...You could also try studying body builders.

Also you probably should have posted this in the art discussion forum instead. Not all people who are into anime are artists.

EDIT: And since I see from your other posts that you say you've been studying anatomy, then the best thing to do is to keep practicing.

I believe this is more appropriate for the art forum, that's why it's the wrong one not because it's not about Japanese comics.

It's a pretty honest mistake though, i think so at least

Yes, but it doesn't seem like you're wanting to discuss any particular comics or comic characters, you just want to know how to draw them. Which means you either want to go here or here.
This particular topic would be better suited for the Art Discussion forum. Taking drawing classes would help because they can help break you away from certain habits. Otherwise, try grabbing a lot of western examples and drawing from that.

Learning to draw from examples is really not the way to go. Trust me I know, it set my artistic skills back pretty badly. Had I learned to draw from life first, or started to draw from life sooner than I had, I would be so much better than I am right now.

I'm not telling her to only draw from one type of example. Sorry if that's how it sounded. I don't think there is anything wrong with looking at a different style and saying "I like that, I want to do a piece like that." I draw from real life, and I draw from examples. You learn a lot drawing from real life but there is a lot to be gained from other sources.
