Question, what if there's a lot of black on the characters? I've been trying to use white highlights to separate, but it ends up looking stupid? emotion_8c

if your character is black. use gradient black shading tool, which also adds the lighting effect.

I also have two (well, three) characters with black hair (the third's hair is dyed purple, but I'd at least like the option in eventuality of natural hair color, you know?).

Gradient black... hm... my Photoshop is sort of bare-bones came-with-the-tablet quality, I hope it has that.


for purple hair, use transparent gradient tool. by using it you can adjust the weight of the tone from dark to light, and then you will have a great selection of different hair colors.
