Hold on, let me get one Robert Schneider over here. He has a very similar opinion on critiques as you do.

I know it hurts to hear that your comic isn't perfect, but that's what critique is about; identifying your own weaknesses so you can make better comics for yourself and these fans that you seem to be so proud of.

Do you actually want critique or do you just want "positive feedback only" (us telling you how great you are)

Stop interpreting criticism directed at your comic as personal attacks. It makes you look and sound like a kindergartner.

I've read about fifty pages of your comic, and while it may not say "Star Wars" on the label, I don't need to read the ingredients list. Your comic even has the same weaknesses and non sequiturs as Lucas' stories. it may not strictly be plagiarism, but it 's certainly "strongly inspired."

There's not much good to be had in giving you a detailed critique, if the previous pages of this thread are any indication of how that's bound to be received, so I'll keep this brief. The art is mediocre, and likely only as good as that because you have Star Wars as a crutch. The story is meandering, uninteresting, and sprinkled with tells that let me know you haven't thought about the plot any harder than you absolutely had to. Fifty pages in, I still didn't care about anyone, so I stopped.

Gearfish has now made me aware that "droid" is a registered Lucasfilm trademark. I never knew that until today. It is actually a shortened version of android, I believe, so it amazes me that I’m not allowed to use it.

I’m definitely going to remove the word “droid” from my online comic asap. I will replace it with something like robot or meka – I assume meka has not been trademarked by anyone.

You need to be aware of how others see your characters. I realize that not everyone is going to like them. But be aware that if people find your characters ugly, that they most likely will not continue past page one. If it was me I can not tell you how to make your characters not ugly.

I think what she might have meant is that they are not visually pleasing. That is to say. They don't look fully human. I find that you are trying for a more american comic feel. But you are not really getting that. They just come off as deformed. Go study how they draw people and your people will look better.

According to Wikipedia there is a band, a cell phone, a bizarre-looking porn film and a font of the same name as well. It's mostly a Star Wars thing, though.

The reason I was getting a bit defensive was because of Kupocake’s feedback, which was just plain insulting.

To quote her, “I can't really get past how ugly these characters are.” There is nothing at all useful about someone saying that the characters are “ugly”.

I want to go on a little sidetrack here, and note that comic artist and illustrator Robert Crumb is notorious for his grotesque, ugly drawings, but he's a competent artist and ugliness is his trademark style. Nothing wrong with ugliness if that's what you want in your work.

On the topic of your comic, if you wanted your characters to look appealing and your drawings likable, then you are certainly not doing a good job at it. Was my criticism stinging? Possibly. But the heart of the matter is that your comic's drawings are unappealing and the art is hard to look at. You don't need to have Disney-looking characters, but your drawings are quite hard to stomach, to the point where I don't even want to read the dialogue.

But of course, why listen to me? I'm not a famous critic or artist, so I certainly have nothing useful to say, because somehow fame is an indicator of skill level.
