The cover

Sorry I cant seem to figure out how to post just the Image on the forum. Which would definatly make things a lot easier.
I don't think it being too busy is the problem. The character and the background don't look like they are part of the same image. The character looks pasted on top of the background. The character doesn't seem to have a definite light source on her, and that doesn't match with the background; not to mention, the background and character are in completely different styles. I do think that the background is really cool-looking, it just doesn't really fit with the character that's pasted on top of it.

I agree that the character is a bit too different from the background.

I think there is a little distortion too. It looks like the width was shrunk down more than the height or something.
Yeah that was a problem I was having in illustrator and it came out very large for a strange reason.

Thank you for your honesty. I think that I may try to draw that background in my style and see if that makes the two images seem more coherent. Thank you very much!
I'd like to add, now that the question of busyness has been addressed, that your cover is just not very compelling in general. I'll be honest and admit my bias against re-interpretations of Alice. Since there has been so many that I think virtually nothing interesting can be made from the story without greatly altering the premise.

But even on that basis, bias admitted, that is really not a good cover. And it's not just about the quality of the drawing (though I think we'd both agree that your anatomy needs work). You have a girl standing in the middle of the page, facing the viewer in a pose that is hard to decipher.

Her face says she's scared, but her body looks like she's posing for a pin-up. I don't know about you personally, but if I was feeling pants shitting terror like her face reads, I would not have a butterfly casually perched on my fingers nor would I be standing in the cutesy inward toes pose.

You have something behind her like it's supposed to be scary. So have her running. Have her turning her head as she's trying to make sure she doesn't get caught. Show us her reaction alone or show us what she's running from, try to mix it up or something. Anything has got to be better than this.

Being frank, this kind of cover only works if you are really really skilled or the person has a deep interest in the subject you are using for your comic and would read it anyway (so that people will forgive the boring cover)

I completely feel the bias against re-interpretations of Alice. Don't get me wrong on that I'm sick and tired of people using the same characters and story from the Disney movie. But to be Honest I do believe I actually have something different to offer Since this comic not only takes place in Wonderland, but also has Oz and Neverland as neighboring countries as well and consists of how some if the characters are not dead already( for example Alice is character that is dead before the story begins.) are handling things in current economic times . This cover was originally meant to convey a mysterious feel, but you are completely right about the pose. I was so focused on redoing my original crappy cover art that didn't even rethink it the believability of it. I have other ideas, but since I redrew this one already I felt no need to do them. I'll try the other ideas and see how they go Thank you very much for your input this really helped a lot.

No problem. I think, despite any problems that you may have in your cover and in your work, you have the right kind of attitude for improvement, so I imagine you'll only get better. And while I, in particular, would not be one that is interested in the premise of any particular Alice re-imagination (but then, I typically avoid all of the re-imaginations of old characters for the same reasons) there are people who will, and while your particular idea still sounds pretty derivative too me (as most ideas tend to) it's the execution that actually matters. So if you think you can tell a bitchin' Alice story, tell the s**t out of that story. If it's good, it'll find an audience.

Yes I completely agree bout how an idea is executed which is exactly why I always try to draw my pages the very best I can and try to make them absolutely perfect. But I'm always interested in hearing whether I did something wrong or not. In one of the older panels I was told I broke her arm and now I really want to fix it. sweatdrop xd
