Alright! First of all, I'd like to ask... Does anyone else use music to help get ideas for your projects and stay inspired/motivated? I do. o_o

It's rather strange, but sometimes I'll just be sitting around, listening to music, and this whole scene just unfolds in my head. :O

Does this happen to anyone else? If so, post the title of the music that did it to you biggrin

I've even made seperate CD's that i listen to when I work on a specific project. They're just little things that keep me inspired while working.

So, yeah. Anyone else care to share their songs?
Interestingly enough, I tend to stick to certain types of music depending on what project I'm working on.

For my current project Nixon, a very violent cyberpunk-influenced story, I've been listening to a lot of industrial techno music - harsh things like Skinny Puppy, Damage Manual and a lot of obscure acts you probably never heard of. I'll drift over into more basic techno music like Crystal Method or Overseer, too. Also, this projects makes me listen to some of the more frenetic progressive bands too, like 80s-era King Crimson, or the Tarkus album by Emerson, Lake and Palmer - the Regressive Aid album Effects on Exposed People... early Yes...

But besides that, the project has actually has me almost inspired to make music "from" the comic. A supporting character in the comic is a rock star, part of a fictional band, and I've been toying with the idea of actually creating the music that the band plays. It would be a hybrid of the techno and progressive music I've been listening to.

Unfortunately, it's not very likely that I'll actually be able to do this, even though I am a musician - since the character I mentioned is a female, and I just do not sing like a girl.
Yeah. Music's one of my biggest sources of inspiration. There are quite a few classical songs that were written to go with stories.

Ok, here's my list, but I want to warn you, I listen to some pretty... strange ... music. I'm probably one of the only few people out there who listen to classical and video game and movie music. And a little techno and a few other things. I've got an unusual taste in music.

These are the songs so far that have inspired me:

-------------------------------
Bacchanale de Samson Et Dalila - (ooof... don't ask me for the composer...)
Rhapsody in Blue
Appalachion Spring
And some others of which I have yet to remeber the names..

Yellowstone: The Music of Nature (whole CD) - Manheim Steamroller
Fresh Aire 5 (whole CD) - Manheim Steamroller
Fresh Air 8 (whole CD) - Manheim Steamroller

Dynamite Rave - Dance Dance Revolution Song
Evolution - Ayumi Hamasaki (immediatly followed by...)
YOU - Ayumi Hamasaki
Allstar - Smashmouth
Inspire - Ayumi Hamasaki

-----------------------------------
So far, I have absolutly no working titles for my works, so I can't list them. No flames on my music tastes, this is what has inspired me. Classical music's probably the best for ideas, but you can see that I listen to a whole lot of other songs besides Classical. Most of what I get from songs are little scenes or "episodes", I have yet to have a whole story inspired by music. Oh, yes, and I have had a few pictures inspired by music.
Music sometimes helps when I paint but not when I write.
Yes, definitely! It's great how putting together a soundtrack, of sorts, can help to keep a project alive.

For my science fiction comic, Onieros, the playlist includes
The Benjamin Gate: "Lift Me Up"
Linkin Park: "Runaway"
3 Doors Down: "Life of My Own"
Smashing Pumpkins: "Rocket"
P.O.D.: "Celestial"
Smashmouth: "Defeat You"
Powerman 5000: "The Son of X-51"
Staind: "Home"
Linkin Park: "Easier to Run"
Third Eye Blind: "Good for You"
Charlie Gonzales: "I'm Free"
P.O.D.: "Punks Rock"
Static-X: "So Real"
Skillet: "Come on to the Future"
Charlotte Church and Billy Gilman: "Dream a Dream (Elysium)"
Plankeye: "Playground"
Project 86: "Star"
Vertical Horizon: "Shackles"

For another project, a dark sci-fi action...thing, currently only under the working title of "C", the soundtrack is composed of:
Staind: "Raw"
Queen: "Who Wants to Live Forever"
AFI: "Silver and Cold"
Skillet: "Will You Be There"
Radiohead: "Hunting Bears"
The Benjamin Gate: "Tonight"
A Perfect Circle: "The Noose"
Nine Inch Nails: "A Warm Place"
Moby: "If Things Were Perfect"
Plankeye: "Scared of Me"
The Rasmus: "Time to Burn"
Sixpence None the Richer: "Puedo Escriber"
Tool: "Reflection"
Interesting enough music don't help me much. :X Whenever I'm listening to music I can see the characters dancing to it. Practically when forced to think of ideas while listen to music I can practically see a fitting anime open/ ending seqenece to a certian song. sweatdrop

Maybe I'm listenning to wrong type of music.
I never tried it before until yesterday, when I read this thread. 3nodding
IT WORKED!!!!!! I now have a much more interesting plot than before. xd
Then again, music always had a good effect on me...
Yup, music really helps me. I kept listening to Gravitation songs on loop while studying for my exams. It really helps me focus my attention on my studying for some reason. eek I put it on 'shuffle mode' so that I won't mentally predict the next song.

I've gained inspiration for stories from listening to songs. Usually it's a critical phrase that triggers it. I've got no set story-inspiring music, it's really random.

Scenes unfold in my head too. It's pretty creepy because they're like visions. I once envisioned the music video for a song without ever having seen it before. On another occasion, the first time I listened to 'Destiny' from X, I saw the scene of Kotori on the cross in my head even though I've never seen X before.

The only thing I can't listen to is Linkin Park. I would just get up and start dancing! xd
Music really does help. Some songs, can inspire you to write a whole storyline.

For example, I got an idea for a story from
"Somebody" by Reba Mcentire. ^^

Songs, can inspire, moods, themes and even character traits. Music and manga go together very nicely.
