Why did the soldier murder his comrade? Make sure you ask yourself critical questions like this to make your story seem more real.

Also make sure you invest a lot of time researching military ranks and behaviors. Choose a specific branch to model them off of, as well. You can't write about soldiers convincingly and know nothing about them.

Do the characters have to be soldiers? So far you've said nothing that necessitates that. It might be best to stick with something you're familiar with, unless you're ready to research military life extensively and have the means to do so.
