I'm posting this here because I find that this is a collaborative experience, of some sort. We just won't be working together on the same story.
I'm looking for someone to bounce idea off of, mainly for this big story project I'm about to start, but really on anything else I may write if the need strikes me. How I'm thinking this could work is that you, the other person, listen to what I have to say and when I'm finished you question things that may not seem that logical to you (contradictory, vague) or ask questions to make me think deeper on a particular problem. Or you even offer your own suggestions as to how something may go, etc. Really, anything that will help me grow to understand my world, my plot and my characters better.
In return, I will do the exact same with you.
I am willing to do this over e-mail, gaia PMs or IM (I have AIM and MSN and Skype). Whichever you prefer.
Now, I am looking for someone who is compatible with how I write - you don't have to write like this, but you must at least be comfortable discussing certain issues since my stories may touch up on them at one point or another:
- angst: my stories don't always end happily. Be prepared for MAJOR character deaths, and the likes
- dark theme: for me, dark themes are subjects such as rape, abuse, murder, suicide, torture, etc. I may not go into explicit details all the time, but my stories usually at least refer to one dark theme every time.
- taboo subjects: incest, mpreg, etc.
- diverse romance pairings: I write a lot of homosexual pairings. In fact, my main character is usually always a male and usually always gay. You must know that for the big project I am planning, it will be m/m relationship. I keep a "realistic" ration as to homosexual/heterosexual pairings, however, so it won't be one of those stories where everyone is gay.
- fantasy/supernatural: The big project I am planning is of the fantastic nature. Not all of my stories deal with fantasy or supernatural, but know that sometimes I do ask for help concerning these fields.
- original and fanfiction: The fanfiction I write are for the following fandom: Harry Potter, Naruto and Inception. I am willing to listen to anything you have to say on any fandom you wish to write for (as long as it's a side project, not your big project), but just know that I may not be of much help if I haven't seen/read the fandom. My favorite pairings are the following: HP [Flint/Wood; Drarry; Charlie/Bill; Sirius/Remus; more], Naruto [SasuNaru; more], Inception [Eames/Arthur; that's it].
Now, here is the setting of the 'big' story project I am planning (it's actually not that "big" a project, it's just big for me since I've never written anything that complex on my own before). I don't want go into details here, not because I'm afraid of someone stealing my ideas, but just because I want there to be something left to tell when we start talking =P
The setting is a post-apocalyptic world. Before, the world was much like ours, except humans had magical abilities. Due to the corruption, wars and crimes committed using this magic, one man decided to embark on a journey to eliminate this magic from the human race. Unfortunately, his project took on a scale he hadn't anticipated and he nearly caused the destruction of the world - there was some sort of gigantic nuclear-like reaction and the world as they knew it was destroyed.
Today, it's 300 years later. The humans that survived managed to establish a new sort of world organization and order and the human race endured. Due to 90% of past knowledge being lost, new cultures, mentalities and ways of life have emerged. Humans no longer possess magical abilities, however, the Earth does. Magic is found in plants, water, mineral elements, etc. Humans manipulate the magic through those mediums, but they are no longer able to independently yield magic.
That's the setting. I can talk more about the actual plot, characters, etc when we start talking.
JUST BE WARNED THAT THERE WILL BE UNPREDICTABLE ELEMENTS IN THIS STORY, SUCH AS DEATHS - MAIN CHARACTERS CAN AND WILL PROBABLY DIE!
Okay, if you are still reading, I have one last thing to say! Here is what I am asking from you when you post (or PM me, I don't care which). if you post, please quote me!
There is no set form (you can fill it out how it is, form paragraphs, whatever!), but I'd still like to know a few things about you =)
- your current writing project I would prefer to brainstorm with someone who also has a big project they're working on. I don't mind brainstorming other writing pieces as well as the big project you're writing on
- genres, ratings, limits What are your favorite genres (additionally - what is the genre of your big project). What ratings do you usually write? What are your limits that you would rather not brainstorm (or that you would rather brainstorm superficially but not enter in detail)?
- fanfiction vs original which do you write? If your big project is fanfiction, I am sorry but I will only accept either Harry Potter or Inception. I will only accept Naruto if you accept the fact that I am not up to date with the manga. I don't want to post spoilers so I can tell you where I am in the manga if you ask. This restriction is only imposed because brainstorming is meant to be helpful to the other person. I can't be helpful if I don't know anything about your fandom =(
However, if your fanfiction is one that I know, I don't care what pairing you're writing for - it doesn't have to be one of my favorites, I'll help regardless ^^
- communication how do you want us to communicate? e-mail, PMs, IM? Another method you'd like to propose to me?
- your big project you're free to go into detail, just give me the over all setting, the gist, etc. Also, if you could mention how far into the story you are? IE: how much information I'll need to be catching up on? I haven't started writing at all. I'm still in the phase where the plot is murky and the characters and world are being created. I'd rather someone at this level, but I don't mind catching up on stuff just as long as there isn't too much to catch up.
- anything else whatever I forgot to mention, or that you want to ask me or that you want to bring to my attention.
I'm not really looking for someone to read over what I write. If you would like for this to happen, it is possible, but just know that it's not one of my priorities. That being said, I don't mind also being a sort of writing buddy who encourages (aka: nags) you to write. Someone people need that to work, some people don't. If you'd like me to ask for your writing progress, etc, I can do that. However, I am /not/ an editor, so please don't ask that of me. I can read over what you write and make comments on the plot development, the character action, etc, but it will be general feedback and not grammar/syntax review!
I really hope I'll get some biters. I'm in desperate need of a brainstorming buddy =P
[EDIT]
I think this goes without saying that I'm hoping for a long-term buddy!
