Selena Jones wants more than anything to be a normal girl. As her eighteenth birthday approaches, however, she realizes that she is becoming less normal than ever. Ink had always run in her veins, and at sunset each day, words were written on her pale skin. As her birthday approaches, she begins to notice that the words are appearing in the day, instead of being washed away by the sun. Her parents, distracted by a divorce, fail to notice, and as Selena's mother takes her to England, far away from her brother and father, who remain in Portland, Oregon. Her nightmares are realized as the leather-bound notebook she had been born of begins mirroring her life.
