I have a feeling this person was joking. Even if someone doesn't know what a cello is called, they at least know what a flute is.

Some peoples' ignorance on classical instruments these days is very, very, sad.

Agreed. And no one could have been joking about it, mainly because the joke would not have really made sense... So I am guessing that they were indeed serious.. which is very sad.. ninja

eek That's a little extreme... and a little sad...

In my school's yearbook, it shows a picture of someone playing a flute, but underneath the picture they call it a clarinet. I can sort of understand that, but mixing up a flute and a cello???

I get the euphonium/tuba mix up all the time. But the flute/cello is just sad.
