It will depend on what ska you have in mind. Ska of the 1960's wass much different than the ska of the 1990's.

A copy of another genre plus a slight instrumentation change? Not enough for me.

I have my B&S PT-6.
I agree with the post above me - it depends on what kind you're talking about.

Ska is a funny thing because most modern ska is based off different musical influences. SOME ska bands would fit under Jazz while others wouldn't. I have one album which is technically ska and reggae but it has a LOT of jazz mixed in. In that case, I'd put it loosely under Jazz...but not every Ska band is like that.

My orphan's name is Huckleberry.
If anyone here likes/loves ska then we can somewhat agree it can sound like jazz. Take Catch 22's Walking Away...perfect example of jazz, especially the very catchy beginning.

Ska was influenced by blues, so indeed, it is welcome.

It makes me sad that it's real.
-_-...The point I think that needs making is it's very hard to label ANYTHING as something specific. Yeah, ska can be heavily influenced by jazz. Ergo, by that, you could post it here, yes. You could also argue what the definition of JAZZ is, but we don't need to get into that here.

But at the same time, one could argue it is not jazz, but rather a musical style influenced by it. And the use of brass doesn't cut it either.
Otherwise, we would have to include alot of other music, Led Zepplin was heavily influence by blues.
Plenty of RnB, Rock, and Pop has jazz and blues mixed into it, without making it those genres.

I think I'd have to agree with everybody else, in a lot of ways it could be classified as jazz, and in a lot of ways it couldn't. Ska has had so many different waves and styles that ska as a whole can not be classified as jazz. Generaly, while there can be a lot jazz in ska, and some ska can definately be defined as jazz, I don't classify ska and jazz in the same boat. Of course Duke Ellington said "Jazz cannot be limited by definitions or by rules. Jazz is, above all, a total freedom to express oneself." So who can say for sure, but generaly I view ska as more of a seperate genre that jazz played a role in developing. Of course as far as discusion, I'd say a more jazz based ska could be easily discused in this forum since there really isn't an area for ska.

no i would rather have "skeet" in the forum. xd

Thanks Satch! That fucking smarts!
I know this has been said 100%, but I would have to say it depends... but for just this instance right wink now, let's say sure.... ninja

first of all why music is in entertainment and not on artist`s corners?...Why is not a punk forum?, because the people who did this forum didn“t thought anyone had anything about t say about it, i think, but maybe some of us could make the moderators or the ones who are in charge to make one...that`d be nice 4laugh

Jazz is a really confusing genre with what is and what isn't jazz. That said I wouldn't care if it gets mentioned.

"aww i want to kill you"
WTF makes an album a concept album?

Enough Tool/Radiohead fans to imagine something elaborate out of it?
