I'm looking for good violin solo to play for next year. Violin isn't my main instrument and I haven't been playing for many years. This year I played the Sarabande and Gigue from the Bach Partita in D minor just to let u know wat level i might be at. For anyone who lives in New York the solo should be a level 6. Thanks. And if anyone knows of any great violin music to listen to u can put that there too. biggrin

How solo? Unaccompanied, sonatas, concerto with piano reduction? I'd suggest the Bach Unaccompanied Sonatas & Partias, or any of Beethovan's violin sonatas, Mozart's book of work is nice, too. Concerti you could look at the usual Bach E Major, Mozart G Major, Wieniowsky (sp?).

I don't recc this for you because it is way too hard, but you might really really enjoy Fratres, by Arvo Part. This youtube link is horribly out of tune though: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-xYGKayA8l8 ....like woah disgustingly out of tune, but it gives a sorta feel for it. GAAAAAH I can't hear it after two minutes or else I go crazy. Definitely worth buying on iTunes though

Try "Allegro in G major" by Fiocco edited by Josef Gingold. Its very good.
I also performed on my last recital "Perpetuo Mobile" by Carl Bohm (from the Little Suite No. 6) its a fast piece.

Anything by Fritz Kreisler. Liebeslied, Liebesfreud, Tambourin Chinois..

Or Mendelssohn's Vocalise.

Definitely Bach's unaccompanied works.

Concerto? Symphonie Espangole by Lalo, or No. 2 by Wienawsky

Viotti and Monti were a great composers. Csardas is one fantastic piece by Monti. It uses so many different techniques. The only part I can't do is the fake harmonics section.

A really good website with public domain music is IMSLP.
