I probably told you about Pickaxe of the Core already, but the other three are really good too.
Axe of the Stream lets you insta-chop a tree down but when you right-click and hold it draws in mobs or exp orbs or items to you.
Shovel of Renewal can clear a ton of the dirt of sand or stuff you're digging at once and right clicking is like bonemeal
Hoe of the Mystic is actually not that good unless you want a wheat farm...
Sword of the Zephyr can make you long jump places and shoots a bolt of lightning into nearby mobs you're attacking.

That does indeed sound pretty fun. Especially the sword. I'm actually kinda disappointed in the Buildcraft / Industrialcraft / Equivalent Exchange weaponry so far. cat_sweatdrop

Oh yeah, so I've discovered that I'm also pretty good at EE as well as IC. cat_3nodding

But can the pick instantly smelt things or point you in the direction of the most valuable materials?

No. But you can right-click an ore and instantly mine the entire vein of it. As well as dig in a 3x1 horizontal or vertical area. And right-clicking with the shovel pretty much clears out all the dirt in a five-block area of your click. cat_3nodding

The shovel seems to do about the same thing. The pick is a little different. Guess you'd better carry both.
