So, 50,000,000 Gaia Gold Coco Kitties by the end of the year? We'll see...
Edit: April 6th, 2014

The poll is still swinging wildly due to the virtual economy but it indicates 45.5% of Gaians are worth at least 750 million gold. Extrapolating from this data and the rampant inflation since the poll began it is fair to estimate that half of Gains are currently worth a minimum of 1 billion gold.

Edit: February 2nd, 2017

Current poll indicates 52.9% of Gaians are worth at least 600 Billion.

The damage being done to society by Economic Inequality, a TED talk by Richard Wilkinson. How long are people going to let this slowly do physical and psychological damage to their families before they've had enough?

February, 2017
Ideal percentages of socio-economic classes are based on various theories and information:
The Unemployment Rate in the U.S for June, 2016 was 4.9%.
- The U.S. Census Bureau reported that in 2015 that 13.5% of the population was living below the poverty line.
- The Center for Poverty Research (University of California, Davis) reported that the Official Poverty Rate for the Census Bureau records, 2015 were 13.5% but according to the Supplemental Poverty Measure, the Poverty Rate was 14.3%.
- The Center for Poverty Research (University of California, Davis) reported that (according to U.S. Census Bureau figures for 2014) the Working Poor constituted 6.3% of the U.S. population.
- The Pew Research Center (May, 2016) reported an alarming decrease in the Middle Class from the years 2000 to 2014. In that same period the Poor and Rich had similar increases.

The prosperous 50s-80s gave the U.S. an extremely healthy Middle Class from previous years.

What is the difference between the Official and Supplemental Poverty Measures?

The official poverty measure triples the inflation-adjusted cost of a minimum food diet and creates thresholds based on family size, composition and the age of the householder. Anyone living in a household with an income below their relative poverty threshold is considered to be in poverty.

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services develops their Federal Poverty Guideline income thresholds based on the official poverty measure estimates. These income thresholds are used to determine eligibility for federal safety net programs, such as Medicaid or WIC.

Since the 1960s, new poverty measures, including the U.S. Census Bureau’s supplemental measure, provide a more complex understanding of poverty in the United States. The supplemental measure includes basic costs of living that can vary across states. It also includes transfers from safety net programs and in-kind benefits.
