Welcome to Gaia! ::

In America most people vote or identify with the left or on the right.

There are third parties but the majority of advertising is funded by the Left or Right. We're trapped in this Black or White dichotomy!

Hell, Mitt Ramen and Obama Drama both have similar ideas when it comes to Social Security and if their opinions are pretty much the same...

They'll just word it differently in order to keep up this False Dichotomy!

The dynamic depends on keeping Americans divided on issues like gay Marriage and Race....i'm tired of the charade.

I know that people will ALWAYS be divided but some divisions are arbitrary.

We all want Food, Housing, Clean Water, the Vox Popoli to be heard and Luxury on the side.

I think we need Direct Democracy and we need to get rid of Identity Politics.

We just can't keep the Status Quo alive.

What are alternatives?
I like my ideas, if you don't...

Provide a counter example and evidence to the contrary with a solution that can be implemented.

Social issues are a great divider.
Could be those

I'm a little disappointed that my choices are conservative or ultra-conservative. One day we'll have another party in the mix. I hope.

I LOL'd at "Mitt Ramen." I just finished eating a bowl of ramen, too... which actually makes it kinda creepy.

I think a good way to fix the ridiculous political situation would be to adopt a proportional representation system, like MMP. At least then, you wouldn't feel like you were throwing your vote away, or picking the lesser of two evils.

Here is a copy of something I typed in a failed thread of mine. lol

1) Personal morals and preferences have no place in politics. This is to include:
a) Preference of sexual orientation
b) Religion
c) Preference of pro life/choice
d) Race

2) Accusations and argument for the sake of argument do not clarify exactly how you intend on implementing your plans.

3) Re-doing healthcare and tax plans, term after term doesn't really allow room for growth or a solid trend to take place and will ultimately be more taxing on the economy when trying to implement those new plans. Change does not produce immediate effects.

4) For you stoners out there. There are more important issues to worry about than being allowed to get high. Besides, you will just smoke anyway. Quit complaining, you damn hippies.

At any rate, the focus on party labelling has become too emphasised, as now it's a battle of which side wins, rather than the practical ideas themselves.

Oh and don't judge a candidate based off of the tie he wears; or ethnicity. That is entirely too ignorant, and if you even make an observation like that please do everyone a favor and do not vote.

I think while a direct democracy would be good for our economy, it would be (a) hard to manage in a population in excess of 300 million people, and (b) won't happen due to the way our country was built. Unless something happens in Washington that is 100% against the constitution, and 99-100% of Americans don't agree, our country will remain as it is.

Do bear in mind that the military is technically under our command though, as we are the military. The primary function of the military in this kind of issue, is to take sides against the US government in the event of tyranny or such, and overthrow it.

I'm just patiently waiting for a presidential candidate to go into a debate wearing a plaid shirt and jeans.

The arbitrary ideologies that inform the left and right are the same ones that inform the middle or othered "third parties". This is absurd, this idea that C is right just because A and B are flawed.
Direct democracy doesn't work. It hasn't worked, and it won't work. Moving on.

Why? You want a solipsistic sociopath to pretend to relate to you? Brilliant, Joe!

Although extreme, an excellent alternative would be to abolish the system of parties altogether and form a more ideal system of decision in our government that clearly identifies the charades you mentioned as well as appeases the majority of our needs and wants, such as less obscure voting/decision-making and more diverse candidates- or maybe the candidates themselves are the problem, perhaps we stray away from choice of candidates and move towards something more ideal.

Not for nothin', but watching a group of rich guys argue about who should lead the country gets old after a while. Gotta spice it up on occasion.
