I am guilty of doing this countless times and am currently doing it with Bleach. I stopped at episode 85 (bounts=Worst filler ark EVER!!!) but since I spent a whole weekend trying to catch up Im now on episode 155 and theres still more!! (206 episodes to be exact sweatdrop )
