Welcome to Gaia! ::

I don't care for any sort of organised religion. What I do or believe in my own home is my own business.

Harm none and do as ye will.
Alilyssa... since Gardner created Wicca, what he did while he was in the process of forming it is sort of irrelevant. Once he had everything set more or less how he wanted it he said "this is the way it's done", and what he said was that Wicca has specific practices that require at the minimum 2 people to perform, though a full coven is best and requires cross-gender initiation. But my understanding is that he wasn't actually alone once he was initiated. The woman who initiated him into the witchcult worked with him for awhile.

Namikikyo.... don't know about school libraries (other than large colleges/university ones), but otherwise your town/county run library should have it.

I guess you didn't care to read. I already know what modern Wicca is. It just means witch or male witch. Wicce is a female witch. That is where the name comes from.

That wasn't to you, but it is nice to know that you think I think about your well being. Bet that makes you feel all warm and fuzzy.

No...I had no idea that Wicca came from an Anglo-Saxon word...who would have thought.

Oh, Don't run off, Angus. Someone has to lighten the mood rather then just me. D:

I's here. I was telling him...her...it can't really tell. To go off and play.
The word witch derives from the Old English nouns wicca /ˈwɪttʃɑ/ (masc.) "sorcerer, wizard" and wicce /ˈwɪttʃe/ (fem.) "sorceress, witch". The word's further origins in Proto-Germanic and Proto-Indo-European are unclear.

The word witch derives from the Old English nouns wicca /ˈwɪttʃɑ/ (masc.) "sorcerer, wizard" and wicce /ˈwɪttʃe/ (fem.) "sorceress, witch". The verb wiccian has a cognate in Middle Low German wicken (attested from the 13th century, besides wichelen). The Icelandic "Vitki" or "Vitka".

The exact etymology of wicce is problematic.

What? Modern Wicca is Wicca. Since Wicca is only 50 or 60 years old, It's still considered a bit modern. Gardner created Wicca, there is no "older" Wicca.

I don't know where your getting that sort of information from.

Where are the real Wiccans when you need them?! D:

No...Wicca is a specific pagan religion, with specific core practices, beliefs. While all Wiccans are witches, not all witches are Wiccans (in fact many would be highly offended if you called them such).

I know. All the name of Wicca and Wicce means is Witch. So obviously any witch could be called Wicce or Wicca without a conflict.

I feel like I'm talking to an automated message machine.

Obviously you didn't or you would have known better.

The word etymology dearies.
The word unfortunately would say that all of you are. And Gardner never claimed Wicca weren't Witches. He said they were.
For ******** sake, Esoteric isn't even contesting what the religion is. Why is everyone flipping out?

The etymology does not make the religion. As far as we know it was not a religion before. Gardner made a religion. Therefore it now has a specific meaning.

I am most certainly not a Wiccan, nor am I a witch for that matter...

Then what are you?

Gardnerian Wicca, or Gardnerian Witchcraft

His books are about Wicca and Witchcraft.

His books and beliefs were loosely based on the "old way."
