So what is your religion if not Wicca....?

None. I would probably be considered an atheist.

Except you must be initiated by someone of the opposite gender in a circle, who has been initiated by someone of the opposite gender, which traces it's lineage to Gardner.

The whole point of Wicca is to celebrate fertility, which is kinda difficult to do when you're alone. Masturbation doesn't make babies. There are some rituals which you can practice alone, but that's only after you've been initiated. Because since all that information is oath-bound, how else would you find out about it?

So is Dianic Wicca a valid tradition to you?
Wicca has alot of emphasis on fertility but it doesn't mean you have to have litteral sex. The fertility aspect is illustrated through the changing of the seasons, which is the celebratory aspect. Ritual is not as important as worship. Ritual is not the equivalent to worship, though it is a type of worship. And you can read books and gather information. That is where the majority of Wiccan Practitioners get to learn because there are not any covens around or there are not any covens whose interests are comon held.

It wouldn't think so since they mostly worship only a goddess, not both of the god and goddess..
For the 3rd degree it does mean literal sex. For the 1st degree it requires kissing of the genitals.

And in Wicca, practice, meaning the rituals, are the most important part.
Even some people who KNOW what Wicca really is can't become Wiccan because they cannot find a coven. They would be called Seekers. You're not Wiccan until you've been initiated into a coven. Even if you find a coven, they don't HAVE to initiate you, you might have to go find a different one.
Being Wiccan isn't for everyone. It's a very specific, strict religion.
The Last Vincent
It didn't serve that effective a counter-point, seeing as it was done in a specific situation wherein you had to say something inconspicuous that would also alert your friends as to the situation.

You said words had specific meanings. I gave a real life example where this is false. Seems like a good counter-point to me, regardless of the fact that it calls for a specific situation.

The Last Vincent
So you admit that your stance would inevitably lead to a massive breakdown in communication?

If taken to it's extreme, yeah.

The Last Vincent
Proof that you practice what you preach with people who also practice what you preach that aren't close to you and wouldn't know what you mean when you say something?

M&R logic, I love that. mrgreen

Don't know why you'd want proof of that, seeing as how it's got nothing to do with my statement. I'm a living proof that words don't have to have specific meaning, and you can still communicate fine.

The Last Vincent
Ergo, my stance is the best stance there is.
Since, you know, it actually stands for what people like to do.

Come now vincy, we both know 'best' is subjective nonsense. Ergo, my stance is the best stance there is.

The Last Vincent
Wrong. Since perfection applies to a specific concept

Is it that hard to understand that you do indeed need a coven to be Wiccan proper? I mean I am no way interested in Wicca I am into the occult and I know this!

*goes off to research wicca*

i can't say that i know too much about wicca, other than the typical hollywood movie hype about "witches, spell casting, etc." i'm curious....

That'd be more witchcraft, please note in your research that Wicca is NOT synonymous with witchcraft, though they do practice it.

/ack! right, thank you!
Oh, I love the smell of fluff burning at 10:30 p.m.
Wicca changes with interpretation which creates branches of Wicca.
So it would be safe for us to say to the questioner.

""This"" is what I believe but is not neccasarily a total encompassing belief and perhaps you can find a branch of Wicca which suits you seeing as it is a valid changing religion with diferent offsets. Some Traditions require you to belong to a coven, others do not. It doesn't make you any less of a Wiccan except in the eys of other people who have more strict lineage regulations. Those beliefs shouldn't matter to you as long as you are true to the basic beliefs of Wicca and your particular branch and worship accordingly.

They go hand in hand.

Correct me if I'm wrong, guys, but didn't the Dianics stop calling themselves a Wiccan tradition? I swear I remember hearing this somewhere.

All valid branches of Wicca hold the same information from the original Book of Shadows that Gardner made. It may not all say it the same way, it may be coded, but it all says the same thing.

Those people who aren't in covens and aren't initiated are bastardizing it. They're pretty much saying "******** you" to all the real Wiccans who spent years to EARN their title.

(I've got to go for a bit, but I'm available for PMing if you want to..)

My fiance got me into all of this stuff. It feels like a rollercoaster to me. He is doing Chaos Magick and I am reading and learning soon to be practicing Faerie Magick. If I ever say anything about occult that sounds like utter BS it is because it is out of ignorance I am still learning. My fiance was born under the 13th sign. He is so lucky..............
