Forgive me, but that sounds circular to me. X books are about what Wicca really is -> Why are these other books invalid? -> Because they aren't about actual Wicca -> What is Wicca 'actually' about -> What X books say Wicca is about.
The religion you find in books about Wicca is great but it's not Wicca. You can not learn the rites and rituals of Wicca from a book. Wicca is not an earth based religion. Wicca is:
Wica is an oathbound tradition- that is to say, the Wica swear oaths to defend and uphold the tradition and protect it.
Wica is a Experiential. That means that it as a religion is less about what you read and more about how being part of the cult and participating therein effects you.
Wica is a Mystery Cult. There are secrets, in both gnosis and informative forms, that are not revealed to the uninitiated.
Wica is Orthopraxic. It isn't about what you believe, but how you do things. This is of course in place to preserve the Experiential Mystery elements.
Wica is made completely of Clergy. This means that all the Wica are priests and priestesses.
Wica is an initiatory religion. This means that for you to be part of it, you have to be inducted ritualistically by other members of the Wica. This again preserves the Oathbound, Experiential Mystery dynamic.
If some one doesn't meet those requirements what that person practices is not Wicca. It might be a very fulfilling religion but it is not Wicca.

You could call an apple an orange and it would work, assuming the people you are communicating with understand what you mean.
By they are two totally different fruit. The same goes for the religion of Wicca and Neo-Wicca. They are completely different. One is an oath bound mystery fertility cult of the Lord and Lady of the Isles. The other is an earth/nature based religion

. I mean, language evolves and the meaning of words change. Which is exactly what I see with Wicca.
If a word introduced has a specific meaning then that is the meaning of the word. Gardner named his religion Wicca. Thus Wicca refers only to his religion. It's not like I can worship Satan and call myself a Christian. If you don't meet the tenants of a religion then you are not of that religion. I don't know how much clearer I can be.
