But the initiation is what makes one able to hold the label of Wiccan.

Even if that's true, the label itself still changes nothing. The experiences gained through the initiation would not have changed had no pointless label been issued during or had some other label been issued. I can call myself a Wiccan and I'm still the same person. I can call myself a Christian, but I'm still the same person. You are who you are and not what you call yourself. That's why I feel labels are utterly worthless and I'll never understand why you, some of the Pagans of Gaia thread regs, and the M&R regs place so much importance on arguing labels and definitions.

As such I respect those who have earned the title. I expect others to earn the title as well. After all being Wiccan isn't about belief. It's about practice, and to be Wiccan one must go through specific rites and rituals. Otherwise the religion looses a lot of what it stands for.

So do you accept that there are people who geuinly take their pagan religions seriously? I mean I'll agree that there are some who are in it for a fad, will you agree that some are genuinely spiritually fulfilled by paganism?

Also you mentioned Atheism as a fad, would you be willing to accept that some are and some aren't?

You are very welcome. There is a lot of misinformation out there in regards to Wicca. It takes study to learn where Wicca originates and the like. The religions that have coopted the title of Wicca are valid in my opinion, just not worth the title of Wicca. I mean other religions have specific requirements to be a member of them. Wicca is no different.

I'll put it another way. All Wiccans are clergy to their Gods. To be clergy of any religion really requires specific training. People who call them selves Wiccan with out that training are claiming to be clergy and know the rites and rituals of that God and Goddess. I do not consider myself a priestess (though it is my goal) as I have not been trained in the rites and rituals. I do hold my own rituals and have my own connection with deity, but that alone does not make me a priestess.

I see. I personally like having structured religious rites and rituals...which is why I'm glad I'm finally training in a specific tradition (4 months and I start training).

So?

So if one is calling themselves a priest or priestess they must know the proper rites and rituals of the religion they are a priest of. Some Gods (like the Gods of Wicca) have specific rites. In order to learn those rites one must be properly trained. One can not simply decide one day to be Wiccan and practice the rites and rituals of Wicca. The Gods of Wicca choose their followers, and have specific requirements. To properly worship those Gods one needs initiation and a coven.
