I was reading the 'love' discussion and I've been wondering, what is love? In you definition. Someone in that thread mentioned that we had an abusive definition of love. I'm just curious to see your answers.

What is love and
How do you know you're in love?

... What, love means different things to a lot of people.
I used to have this overly complicated definition that proved that people never actually loved, I know now that, that isn't a real definition.

The next time someone makes this damn thread they should just go ahead and make the title 'baby don't hurt me'.

Love is whatever you make it out to be. From the smell of your enemies dead bodies, to your enormous steam train miniatures collections, to your partner whom you see but once a year, yet still remain loyal too.

For me, it's easy. It is to be devoted to someone or something to the point that he, she or it becomes one of the most important things in your life to you.

That is how I describe love.
     
It's true that we don't know what we've got until we lose it, but it's also true that we don't know what we've been missing until it arrives.

thank god I didn't have to say it...

but to bring this back to ED level, I think love is a liking of someone that never gets old. That it not going away and instead getting stronger the more time you spend together. As for identifying it I'd say you can't know it's love until the passion (the lust and craziness of young love) dies away and you're still left with a feeling of wholeness, but to each his own really; people find love in different ways and classify it in that (differently).
