I pretty much disagree with your whole entire view on sex and marriage. (And I feel sorry for you--arranged marriage? Duty? Oh man . . .)

dont feel sorry for me. i love the idea. i have chosen it. its not a duty, its my choice.

So you like the guy?

dont know who he is yet.

Incorrect sir. Sex did, does, and always will mean something. Its just what it means to you that defines what the meaning itself it.

No, sex is ascribed meaning by people, but it's essentially just a visceral act no more special and magical than eating or shitting.

Someone obviously doesn't enjoy his eating and shitting enough.

Selfish? I've never seen virgins called selfish. And bad people? o.0

What culture are you a part of that you have an aranged marriage? Not being trolly, I'm geniunely curious. =)

the whole view of waiting till marriage. they think that all virgins want is a ring and then they will give it up.

well im a white american. surprising right? its my religion that calls for arranged marriages. and its not as old fashioned as people think it is. we dont have to deal with dating. we have all choice in the matter. i can say no.

The idea of 'all they want is the ring to give it up' is an incorrect view of the idea of virgins waiting for marriage. The idea is that they want to wait for a commited, serious, monogomous and lifelong relationship. The ring I think is beside the point.

Religion counts as culture imo, but cool. I took a few anthropology classes, we talked alot about the pros and cons of relationship managements in different cultures. Correct me if I'm wrong, but it's more about building connection between families and growing to love someone through respect and building a family rather than falling in love, then building the family? If it makes you happy, congratulations, honest to god I wish you all the best.

Ah . . .

I wish you luck with that. Hope you get a prime example of our gender. Not some . . . you know . . .

You never know.
Hold up, before I hit the virginity thing... Arranged marriage?!
I couldn't handle that.
You actually seem happy about it too, which scares me more than the concept. Oi. Even if you have the choice to decline the other person, without dating or spending time to get to know a person... you can never rightfully get to know a person. Arranged marriage is just such an inane idea to me.

Anyway - To virginity.
In a time where nearly all of my friends have lost their virginity (or even preggo), I still stand to my morals. Somehow. I don't especially follow the "wait til married" bit, but more-so with someone you love. Not giving it away just to give it away. When I give my goodies up, it'll be to someone I can see myself spending a good bit, if not all, of my life with. Plus, I'm not taking the chance of getting preggo without the baby's daddy being someone that'll be sure and stick with me.
Call me naive.
I just can't wait til my boyfriend reads this or something -.- Ha ha ha

That is abstinence in a nutshell. Sure, you can go on about how it's all about some deeper connection and emotional bonds, but a legal document or a pretty ring doesn't grant you any of that, and why is such a thing unobtainable until you are bound to someone?

i wont try to change your mind. its just a belief that people who choose abstinence have. there is usually a meaning behind abstinence.

mine is, i am saving myself for my husband. and he for me. its as simple as that. just a promise to be with only each other. a way to show our dedication for each other. it dosent have to do with what sex actually is, its about what it can represent.

Considering she's never even met this guy, that's a certainty.
Arranged Marriage seems very much like meeting someone on the Internet to me.

Oh. My god. Your font.
She's not drawing a name from a hat, obviously there is some sort of matchmaking process involved. Probably her parents will meet with his parents, and it's never a coin toss, well, lets get this guy, decision. Arranging a marriage is a long, complicated process. Assuming she's going to end up with a b*****d is stupid. Someone has to arrange it, and they probably have the best interests of the families involved in mind.

Virtue could mean several things. Let's say, for example, that virginity is admirable. If you're in your twenties and still hadn't had sexual relations--you deserve a cookie. Many, many cookies. Chocolate chip. with frosting. And a glass of premium chocolate milk.

I'd say that having held off for so many years is something to be admired. Maybe not just for the virginity, but for the will power.

(Or something that deserves all the sympathies in the world.)

Only, what Voltaire meant was value in the traditional sense.

im going to guess you are atheist. if you view having sex as a basic human action then you probably dont believe in a greater being.

I'm agnostic.

exactly. its about building and strengthing families. usually in my religion two opposing cultures and races get married. like japanese and american, or black and white, or german and jewish. its about healing old wounds and repairing broken bonds. if two families join together to marry their children, then the families have to overcome their difficulties.

usually the parents talk to each other and decide if it would be good, then the kids meet, and their is a mutual choice if they want it to move on or if they want to try again. usually there are multiple familes talking and it dosent happen on the first try. in the end, its up to the kids.

You are aware what is best for the families may not be best for the individuals involved in the marriage at all, right?
What religion are you, I'm really curious?
