Don't know if this has been posted yet:
http://www.earthtimes.org/articles/show/283012,bank-employee-undergoing-sex-change-objects-to-genderless-toilet.html
This woman (the article calls her a he and the terms are all ******** up, of course) is having her surgery in November. She officially switched "genders", which I assume means she's now living as a woman like, everywhere, getting papers and s**t, is upset because HSBC in China installed a genderless toilet for her to use.
I know a lot of you are FOR gender neutral toilets, but this person is lodging a discrimination complaint. It actually kind of makes me mad, because you know people don't see stories about trans folk being appreciative of gender neutral toilets. They're just gonna go GOD DAMN UNGRATEFUL TRANNIES BURN 'EM ALL and s**t
sad To be fair, "We installed a special toilet for you so you don't have to mix with the rest of us" isn't exactly a compliment. Most are in favour of gender-neutral toilets for everyone, for economical and common sense reasons as much as the non-binary rights reasons. But you're right, that's not what the public is gonna see when they read that article. No, it isn't a compliment, but it's better than forcing her to use the men's toilet. Sometimes I think people forget that baby steps are still steps.
And sometimes, baby steps are movements to the side instead of forwards; a way to pretend to do something while actually doing nothing. In which case, being patient is just accepting the con-job.
According to the story she was
assigned to the genderless toilet. Which, to me, implies it was already there for some other reason and they requested/insisted that she use that one exclusively.
Granted, this is not the full story; it's a quick writeup by a journalist who either doesn't understand or respect transgender identities (obvious from his pronoun usage). But if that interpretation of the scenario is correct, then the comparison isn't with forcing her to use the men's toilet; it's with allowing her the option of the men's room or the genderless toilet.
Again, though, I don't have the full story.
