Then a little "Christian" phase right after that, and then... I guess I've been building my own beliefs bit by bit as I gain experience ever since, since ultimately that seemed like the sensible thing to do, rather than believe that anyone else could tell me what I ought to do with my experiences, including Anton LaVey. That said, I still kind of respect him, if only because he knew how to be convincing, and he was a very charismatic figure. He knew how to put on a show, and that's definitely a talent, no doubt about it. At the end of the day, though, it looks to me like there may be more mature ways to nurture a non-religious relationship to the world around you, but that's just me, you go ahead and be a LaVey Satanist until the cows come home, don't let me stop you.

I hear some Satanists say that Satanism is not for the weak. They believe in letting the weak die off. But the thing is everyone has their strengths and weaknesses. Also, there is no standard of who’s considered "strong" or "weak", it's all subjective. Even if there was, who are we to decide who’s "weak" and who’s "strong"? So my question is, who do you personally define as a "weakling"?

Who exactly is being elevated to being a god here? You? In what sense have you achieved divinity? What would you consider divinity?

One of the central ideas behind LaVeyan Satanism is that "you are your own god". Basically, LaVeyan Satanism preaches that there is no god, and that everything you do should be entirely motivated by self-interest.

In other words, it teaches that one should be selfish, greedy, apathetic, egotistical and narcissistic, indulging in and relishing the "sins" of Christianity rather than avoiding them or being repentant for committing them.

When I was one, I always interpreted 'you are your own god' as 'you, a relatively unassuming human being are the template from which all gods have been drawn, not the other way around. Remember that, and understand that there is no consciousness guiding your hand that is not your own'. From what I've seen, the individual satanist's mileage will vary, but I've never met one who actually thinks of themselves as a 'god' .
