Because the dont! Look at that blob and the way it sticks to the wall and look at a bryozoa. A bryozoa is basically like a seasponge that just sits there. It could not stick to a wall. They float in the water.

If you look close at the strange creature, you could sort of see what might be the individual worms, which would be easy to mistake for muscular fibers if this theory is true.
