I really can't believe this happened...

The first thing I thought of was those "CLICK HERE TO EARN MONIES" banners that have
you fill out "offers" that earn the site money and give you a metric fukton of malware.

I tried a bunch of them and never go any cash, while others say they got cash for doing THE SAME THING I did, so I was already fed up, but after seeing this, yeah I think Im done with "free" cash offers =/

to me its just like every other lame site now, like myspace, I play mafia wars and tried super rewards for stuff and its just like this, I waste hours of my time and never get anything out of it, I don't understand how someone can get cash from an offer, but when I do it nothing, its so gay... plus there are virus and scams on it? phuck it.

There's an easy way to get around having your personal information released.

Use a sex offender's
other than being against the law to do so, its also against the rules of the offer sites, so I doubt that being a good idea burning_eyes

It is not against the law.

And the offer sites only say the info must be real.

I doesn't have to be yours.

if everybody got on that site and started sending a bunch of crap to these people, they could at least try for harassment I'm sure... if not its all good, but I really hope SOMETHING could be done if say, my info started being spread around... of course, who cares about the sex offenders really, but still... the idea of it is no good

the offer sites ask for valid personal information, trust me, that means YOUR info...
It's nice to see people trying to help out with this situation

I've seen these for Myspace and Facebook apps and I don't trust them there. At the very least, you get spam and/or physical junk mail.

Don't know if I like this move on Gaia's part. xp

Thanks so much for posting this!

The offers looked obviously scam-ish so I went to the forums to check on them first and I'm glad I came across this thread, I was all ready to try one out trusting Gaia had made sure they were safe. sad

I'm so disappointed in Gaia, this is one of my favorite sites and it's just so sad they did this. sad

Hey guys, if you dare to try any, some offers won't even give you your GC rewards for completing them. There's a teeny-tiny "problems?" link on the top of the page after you click an offer to go to, and it reads:

Reasons and complications why you may not received your credits at this time:

* You may not have fulfilled the requirements necessary to be credited.
* Ad blocking software prevents advertisers from placing the cookies required to track the offers.
* Browser security settings configured to not accept third party cookies, causing the report to fail.
* Software on your computer that is hijacking the cookies and crediting the offer completion to another company.
* Keep all proofs of purchase in order to insure that you receive your credits if you encounter a problem.
This includes PIN #s, payment receipts, charge invoices or charge receipts, etc. Keeping this information will increase the speed of processing your complaint with advertisers.

Lovely, isn't it? stare

After spending hours searching for what I thought was a legitimate offer, I tried one of these on a Facebook app. Though I gave my real info, my credit was reversed. So what happens here on Gaia when users complete these offers, get their cash & later the cash is reversed for some reason? (Like the idea to use sex offender's info. Not sure but that might be ID theft on top of harassment.) Bad enough to risk trojans, malware & such, but if you end up with a ban over this crap, holy hell.
Up to the top this thread goes, great information.

INSERT TERRIBLE IDEA HERE

This is inappropriate. It is harassment and identity theft. I'm going to report this post to see if I can get it removed.
Excellent information, folks!

Its such a shame, too, since I was seriously considering some of the book club offers. Now I don't want to risk my personal data.
