Of course I'm for marriage and adoption. Been with my girlfriend for a year and a half, be nice if I could marry her, should I so choose.

I believe homosexuals and lesbians should be able to marry.
If their not doing anything to hurt me, I'm fine.

Personally, yes. I believe gay couples should be allowed to marry. You can't always choose your sexual orientation and discriminating against it is just as bad as racism (not that there isn't any of that). I may not be gay myself or find other girls attractive, but I've always been open minded and I have total respect for anyone who happens to be gay. They're people, like everyone else--and they're not out to kill anyone.
And, sure, they should be able to adopt children. I mean--why not? Sure, maybe a handful will screw up and end up being horrible parents, but--to be fair--plenty of straight couples have screwed up parenthood as well. You also have to think of the child and their social life if their parents are gay though, as well. Would the couple be able to raise the child/ren to be proud of their parents despite their sexual orientation? Will they be able to handle the ridacule(sp?) from their peers? Even with this, I still say yes--gay couples should be allowed to adopt. Everyone deserves a chance.

This ain't no idealistic world, so there will definitely be a rough patch no matter what they decide to do, but--sooner or later--people will get through it and accept it.

Project time again for my college sociology class. This class requires us to do a number of projects that involve surveying 20 people on different subjects. I thought it would be more interesting to ask people online given the wider variety of people than I come into contact with on a daily basis, especially for this subject.

So...the project...

Do you believe gay couples should be allowed to marry? Also, do you think gay couples should be allowed to adopt children? It would be helpful if you could include your age, gender, and ethnicity as well (I do hope people realize it's impossible to do anything to you using this small amount of personal information, it's not like I'm asking for your name and address)

Thanks in advance for your opinions! heart
I won't be very responsive for a while as I'm moving and wont have internet at my new house until thursday at best (and maybe not even then.)
Yes and yes. Marriage is a contract between two people and a government, if churches/temples/mosques don't want to have ceremonies, that is totally up to them. But it is unfair to disallow that contract between two people because of a religious bias. For adoption, yes. In the states where it is legal to adopt, I know they have more stringent rules for a same-sex couple to adopt as opposed to the different-sex couples. Where I will differ on most other people is I believe those standards should become everyone's standards. If you're concerned about the children, then that concern should lie with all the children and not just those going to certain couples.

And since you said you may not be back for a while, you can PM me if you need any other information for your class. smile

Do you believe gay couples should be allowed to marry?
Yes, I do. I'm Bi-sexual myself and I had a girlfriend that I thought that I was going to be with her for the rest of my life and we talked about marriage. I believe that any couple should be allowed to marry. You can't choose who are and you shouldn't be discriminated against just for being gay or lesbian.

Do you think gay couples should be allowed to adopt children?
Lke I said above, I'm Bi and I'm also adopted. If I was with a female partner for the rest of m life, yes I would want to adopt. I want to be a mommy at some point of my life and personally, I'd end up doing a single adoption and raising the child with my partner. It doens't matter to me if a child has two moms or two dads or a mom and a dad. The child will hopefully get loved in any family.

Love is Love. If two women or two men want to be with each other, they should be allowed to be. Why does it matter what two consenting adults do in the bedroom? That's pretty much the main difference between straight and gay couples. Anyway, lawmakers have no right to decide who can expiriance love and who cannot. It's a violation of human rights if you think about it. It's denying happiness that is just a part of human nature.

And of course they should be able to adopt. If they are qualified, good people, they could really improve the lives of children who would have otherwise wasted away in orphanages or awful foster homes.

Unfortunately, my country doesn't really allow gay people to do anything :/ Shameful.

I do believe Gays should be able to marry and adopt. Not because I'm partly Gay, but because they're humans. ;D

I believe homosexuals should be allowed to marry. I don't believe we should force the churches to open their doors to us for a grand wedding, but the legal documents and the government supporting the union would be great. I mean, how does two men or two women getting married hurt anyone?

With the adoption thing... I agree with Yumao. The right to adopt children shouldn't be based on an adult's sexual orientation, but the home and love they will be and are able to give to the child. There are plenty of children out there who need homes, and even more so need the love a parent gives their child, so why refuse the child of that?

Muu?
In my beliefs i think gays should be able to marry. I think that they deserve to be happy just like everyone else does, just because they like the same sex as them doesn't make it wrong by any means.

I also think it is a great idea to let gays addopt. They would make just as good of parents as a strait person. My sister is lesbian and i think she would make a much better mom then i would.

Also the law against gay marriage is technically breaking the seperation of church and state. that law was put in place so the government couldn't control the religons, and marriage is a christian practice therefore marrige shouldn't have anything to do with the government in the first place and the government can't tell two people they can't marry.

I think (and I might be a bit biased here) that gay marriage should be legalized, simply because there's a big restriction on rights here, that any 'free' country should give, with no thought attached.
Oh, and there is nothing in the Bible that has anything against homosexuality, even if that was allowed to affect the decisions of the government. Funny thing is, back when segregation was big, the Bible apparently stated that it was the way God wanted things.

I also think that we should be able to adopt, because there are sooo may kids out there that don't have homes, and are living in absolutely horrible conditions, and I think that any home is better than living like that.

You do know that you're going to be getting essentially the same answer from everyone here. Gaia probably isn't the best demographic to ask if you want varied results.

No they shouldn't be allowed to marry. Yes they should be able to be joined in same sex unions with all the benefits.

Depends on the couple in terms of adoptions.

            mar⋅riage
              /ˈmærɪdʒ/ [mar-ij]
            –noun
            1. the social institution under which a man and woman establish their decision to live as husband and wife by legal commitments, religious ceremonies, etc.
            ( Dictionary.com )

" separation of church and state "
( First amendment of the constitution )

In my opinion; I believe that gay marriage should be allowed.
            For it is even written in our constitution that religion and state should not be combined;
and yet we base marriage on what is stated in the bible.
This includes the legal aspect of mirage like land, children, health care, social security, and so on.

            I understand that marriage is suppose to be holy, and under the light of god;
and I respect those who are willing to fight for what they believe in.

So I think we should get ride of the term marriage all together.
Only the church will use marriage; and if you want a legal marriage we can call it a partnership.
This goes for both homosexual and heterosexuals alike.
The partnership ritual can be exactly like a marriage; and it has to be something everyone has
if they want the same rights a legal marriage provides today.

I also believe that homosexuals should be aloud to adopt children.
First of all; there are tons of kids out there that no one wants.
and here is a couple who wants a baby.
By refusing a couple a child just because of there race OR sexuality
is not only hurting the couple, but is hurting the child as well.

I am 15 ( going on 16 ;D ) year old female; half Caucasian and half Asian.

Yes. I do not see a logical reason for two consenting adults to not be wed.

Quote:

One's ability to raise a child is irrelevant to who the parent does or does not love and wed. I see no reason why they should not be allowed to adopt.

Best of luck on your project, I hope this was helpful.
