Welcome to Gaia! ::

Project time again for my college sociology class. This class requires us to do a number of projects that involve surveying 20 people on different subjects. I thought it would be more interesting to ask people online given the wider variety of people than I come into contact with on a daily basis, especially for this subject.

So...the project...

Do you believe gay couples should be allowed to marry? Also, do you think gay couples should be allowed to adopt children? It would be helpful if you could include your age, gender, and ethnicity as well (I do hope people realize it's impossible to do anything to you using this small amount of personal information, it's not like I'm asking for your name and address)

Thanks in advance for your opinions! heart
I won't be very responsive for a while as I'm moving and wont have internet at my new house until thursday at best (and maybe not even then.)
1)Emotionally: Getting married is very important to some people. Many waste years dreaming of what their wedding day would be like. To deprive someone of that joy or status is wrong.
Legally: They deserve the right to include their partner in their estate and benefits just as heterosexuals do.

2)I think that homosexuals deserve a child if they are willing to adopt and go through the same grueling process heterosexuals have to go through.

Being homosexual doesn't change that you are human!

Gay men and women should be able to adopt and marry. They are people too. The end.
]Do you believe gay couples should be allowed to marry?
Yes, everyone deserves an equal right to be legally, if not religiously joined.
Do you think gay couples should be allowed to adopt children?
Yes, a person's ability to raise a child should not be affected by their sexual orientation.

Do you believe gay couples should be allowed to marry?

Yes. Love is love between anyone.

Also, do you think gay couples should be allowed to adopt children?
Of course!!

I'm fourteen, white, and a girl.
Sixteen, female, White/British and straight.

Marriage:
Yes. Marriage is more than a religious ceremony these days, it's a legal contract and a declaration of love and devotion. Everyone should be allowed to do this.

Adopt:
Yup.
Let's put it this way - if two heterosexual people who barely even like each other can have a child and it's not morally wrong, why shouldn't two homosexual couples who love each other be allowed to, too?
YES I say yes to both because it is ok.

Gay marriage should be allowed because I don't really seem what's wrong with it. Does it really bother anyone else?

And of course, gay people should be allowed to adopt. What right do we have to prevent them from enjoying the benefits of child raising that everyone else enjoys? Perhaps it'll be a little difficult growing up with gay parents, but a lot of children often find their parents embarrassing anyway.
Do you believe gay couples should be allowed to marry?
Absolutely. Love is love.
Do you think gay couples should be allowed to adopt children?
Yes. Gay couples are just as suitable to love and nurture as any other human being is. Seriously, for people that believe you need a Mom and a Dad to raise a child, then you should outlaw single mothers and fathers.

They should be allowed to marry and adopt kids.

Early 30s/male/mixed/bi
Honestly I would think you should poll other college students or random people on the bus or something, the porble with these kind of online surveys are that they are not really terribly representitive of the general population.

Anyone who is able to adobt kids and passes whatever screening the have should be allowed to get marrried. The church and state are seperated. in canada weddings include the line with the power invested in me by the government, not by god, so....

Gay folks should be afforded the same civil rights straight couples are, including marriage and adoption. If the Church doesn't want to call it 'marriage', might as well not argue the point, but only if civil unions don't involve lesser benefits.
I believe that all couples have a right to adopt and get married, some may say that kids adopted by same-sex couples may become sexually confused, but as long as they explain things then there should be no real confusions.
Everyone has a right to be married at the very least, and I find it ridiculous that so many places ban gay marriage.
And for your last bit you asked, I'm a 16 year old white straight man

oh yes i think they should be allowed to marry there are many benefits that come with marriage and i can't remember the exact # but its a pretty large amount of rights that gays are denied. i view marriage as 2 people who are in love. while some argue its for the purpose of having children well what if your infertile?

and some people say that gays shouldnt be allowed to adopt because they may turn the child gay. but actually in the nature nurture issue our personality and behavior is influenced more by our genes and peer influence. parental influence is mostly on beliefs(religious, political). and gays who have been married have a lower rate of divorce then straight couples. i think a couple who really want to adopt shouldnt be denied that right.
