Alright. Just checking. sweatdrop
why would you want to be goth or emo, you basically pigeon hole you yourself into a stereotype. are you that insecure about who you are that you have to take a generic blueprint from hot topic and say "i'm this." its pathetic.

I'm not either Goth or Emo, but I made this in order to understand something. Please don't start an unimportant arguement. If you want something to do with this, PM me.
              I adore Goths!
              emotion_kirakira
Or at least, the legit ones anyway.
Not the ones who act too depressing and mopey.
And yes, there are Goths who are happy!

I used to be Gothic, or at least, dress the part. However, I'm a sucker for cute clothes.

But I adore the subculture, and the old-school music especially!
I'm totally in love with Peter Murphy.

And my boyfriend's best friend is a Goth. He's the most interesting guy I know!
              But very shy, haha.

Goth is the widely accepted abbreviation for two German barbarian tribes, the Visigoths and Ostrogoths. During the fall of the Roman Empire, they plundered the city of Rome itself, and even ruled there for a time. Am I a Goth? Perhaps, I have a large amount of German ancestry, so it wouldn't surprise me.

Emo is an abbreviation for emotional. Am I emotional? I suppose, I don't act painfully monotonous or robotic, and I have a wide range of expressions and tones which I may use to communicate.

It's a bit odd that you should group German barbarian tribes and being emotional together, non?
Now this is a logical answer, but in today's world Goth and Emo obviously have new meanings amongst 11-16 year olds and some older people. Goth comes from the "Gothic time period" during Victorian era. It's a style of dress that some kids are choosing which is like black 1800 style, I suppose.
Emo is really an insult when calling someone that but I've noticed some like to be labeled "emo."
I believe in these days, emo's are people who are highly emotional tothe point of depression, which consists of self mutilation (cutting, scratching obsessively, bruising...etc), being reclusive and a major lack of self confidence.

I put them together because they both involve a teen trying to be individualistic.

Well I suppose I'm 'goth' in the sense that I have a thing for taking Renaissance and Victorian fashion, though I wear a slightly more practical variation (seeing as it would be near impossible to walk around in a big metal cage skirt with twenty layers of clothes on, plus a big ruff around your neck, in this day and age).

I don't wear only black and skulls though. I wear as much color as those of the actual era, and my jewelry displays more of a variety. Maybe it's because I buy my clothes from my local Renaissance Fair when it's in town instead of the nearest Hot Topic.

Either way, I wear the things I find aesthetically pleasing. Perhaps some see it as trying to stand out, I merely see what I do as an art. I've seen so many do things that look costume-y and cheap with this particular style, and it's not that I don't empathize with them (the real deal is expensive as hell and hard to find), it's just that because so many use the cheap things the style has a bad reputation for being gaudy, looking like a Halloween costume, making the wearer look silly, etc. when it doesn't have to. I take pride in the fact that when I walk in wearing an outfit, I don't get stares because my outfit looks silly. I gets stares because it looks legitimate (and probably because of my size C boobs when I wear a corset that pulls my waist down to 24 inches, because that's literally what every other comment is about when I wear the thing around my guy friends).
