Welcome to Gaia! ::

if anyone else is an eclectic pagan, what are your beliefs???
I am a non-denominational pagan. I worship multiple gods and goddess for multiple pantheons (ex: Nyx, Hours, Dagda, Freya etc). I study and practice many diffrent types of magic everything from the basics of chaos magic to druidic traditions or even gotaic rituals. I am out of the broom closet to my family and friends, my parents( mostly my dad) are strong Catholics so it hasn't been easy. I am solitary but not by choice, since I'm stuck in the bible belt so there aren't many of my fellows to commune and meet with.

merry meet, its nice to meet you.
and that's a lot of Gods and Goddesses.
How did you get into paganism?
What got me into paganism.
Well, it was a 2 years ago that I finnaly got fed up with christianity. I had always been fascinated with mythology of all cultures do I already knew the gods and goddess well. Nyx is my most beloved of them all, she has always apealed to me, so I just got down on my knees opened my arms and said a prayer to her only as well as a confused soul can. When I finished I felt amazing, as if someone had really been listing. I've been pagan ever sience.

The reason for the large amounb of dietys is that I do alot of spellwork and I like to envoke the name of whatever deity I feel suites the spells purpose the best. So I try to pray as many as possible so they will be willing to help me.
wow, thats cool.
i converted when my dad went to prison and my life was turned upside down. my aunt told me"god does things for a reason". it pissed me off, so i turned toward my religion that i have now.
this wasn't long ago though, i completly converted around christmas time.

i have a question though.
Can i still believe in Jesus christ? i do not think that he is our savor. A very important man yes, i beleive that he lived. I dont believe in God though. But like i said, i acknowlegde that Jesus actually lived. Is that bad?
I can't really see anything wrong with aknowlegding the christian gods existience. As long as you don't follow its doctrine, I don't really think it matters. People who use gotaic magic are envoking it's power.

this is the definition i got from dictionary.com. Im not really good at explaining it.

–noun
1. one of a people or community observing a polytheistic religion, as the ancient Romans and Greeks.
2. a person who is not a Christian, Jew, or Muslim.
3. an irreligious or hedonistic person.
–adjective
4. pertaining to the worship or worshipers of any religion that is neither Christian, Jewish, nor Muslim.
5. of, pertaining to, or characteristic of pagans.
6. irreligious or hedonistic.

That definition doesn't really give a very good idea does it? The pagan path is less about religion (religion conjures images of controlled worship).

Well, for one there's no such thing as "the" Pagan path. That's like saying "the Abrahamic path." You're still left going "...okay, which one?" There are so many different Pagan faiths out there, and none of them exactly like the other. The only thing they all have in common is that they don't worship YHVH.
Pagan faiths are very much so religions, whether you like the conjured image or not.

Quote:
On my calendar (Gwydions Moon Calendar) it says "Our Pagan Heritage is an adaptive and holistic spiritual cosmology. It is founded on the reality (and responsibilities) of our role as part of living nature. It is not a religion dependant on 'faith' in a #set of beliefs'".

I much prefer that definition.

See, there's that ambiguous "Our Pagan heritage..." thing. Which Pagan heritage?

I don't care for that definition. I feel that it tries to play too heavily on the "big bad ebil krischuns! u dont wana wurship lyk dem!" card. What is wrong exactly with having a set of beliefs and faith? Those are two very important things in terms of having a faith. They are by no means limited to Christianity, or any other faith that one perceives as big, bad, and mean.
And, not every Pagan faith falls all over itself worshiping nature. My path (Asatru) is not really nature-based. Nature is honored, yes, but it is not the focus. Honoring the gods and the ancestors is the focus of my path.

I know the pagan path encompasses many religions and I'll admit I use that umbrella term because I am yet to find my place within this world.

Also I have to say I don't dislike Christianity. It is after all their business how they worship. But Christianity is not for me. Some people obviously draw comfort from a set religion but not me. I found faith in the outside world, in nature rather than in a cold church. This is just my point of view.

I hope someday I can find my specific path as you have ^^

(sorry it took so long to answer I went out with my friends)

It's not wrong to believe in Jesus. Chances are he did exist, that story would be pretty difficult to conjure from midair without some questions being asked. You can believe in anything you want. The important thing is to decide what you believe for yourself, don't let someone else tell you what to believe, there's a huge difference between teaching someone and telling them what to think.

I was never at any point Christian because I was faithless and had little to believe in or live for so I don't really understand what it is like to be converted.
What's it like to constantly be ripped off by Christianity?
Gotaic magic is probably the most widely used form of high ritual/sigil magic. Read a book
called The Lesser Key of Solomon it's where it originated. You can find a free copy of it on the books section of chaosmatrix.org
medication: that's good. i just didn't know if i could because pagans cannot believe in the "A" word God (I dont know how to spell it, i would butcher it xDD) and i didn't know if Jesus was included in that.

LIGUY: its annoying, just like you

and Childofconflict: do you need a credit card to get a boo off that website?

The Goetia is sometimes used for demon summoning. And I strongly suggest that you take very good care to learn the languages involved inside and out, learn everything about the rituals inside and out, as if you mess one little thing up in a ritual involving demon evocation, very, very bad things will happen.

As it has been said before in other places: don't summon what you can't properly banish.

I cannot recommend this book for someone just starting out.
wait, it involves demons?! I always associated demons and stuff to black magic...which is bad...right???

Nothing to do with black magic, but demons are not very nice beings by any stretch of the imagination. Also seen here: Sacred-Texts: Lesser Key of Solomon

Failure to perform any ritual contained within the Ars Goetia properly can result in bad experiences. There have been reports of those summoning one of the 72 demons to end up with severe mental trauma among other things. If you do end up trying anything within that book, BE CAREFUL.

Though, again, it is a very advanced book. Read it if you are curious, but do not let the curiosity bring you to attempt anything. Summoning a demon is very serious business.
