@Raven Incognito: Face it - you stopped reading and started chomping on your nails when I pointed out that difficulty is a variable because you know that by that reasoning, if everyone sucks, then the game is hard.
What's your point?
I'm not arguing that.
I'm asking you to point out a game that's universally hard, that EVERYBODY sucks at.
Possibilities are irrelevant.
You do not provide proof. You provide theories and opinion.
Therefore you fail at the argument.

Would new games be considered universally hard, since no one has ever played them and would suck at since it's their first time playing it?

And for the game that's universally hard that you keep asking for: Superman 64.
So what you're saying is that if I haven't played a game before I will automatically suck at it?
Well s**t, I guess I haven't been kicking the crap out of the Xenosaga games I've been playing, because I haven't played them before and by your logic, I must suck at them. Even though I don't. Which means they're not hard.

Crazy how that works.

I just had an epiphany. Learning curve defines a game's difficulty. Whoever made that mathematical statement earlier, you need to start working on some kind of logarithmic equation or something now.

Its a time factor as in Video Games equals Difficulty times time.

Yes if you don't know how to speak German.
If I don't know how to speak German, it's hard for everybody to speak German?
Right.
I'm sure that makes sense in your little world.

You with the lack of ability to speak German makes it universally harder to comprehend German on all fronts. It makes sense in...
....
So me not knowing how to speak German makes it inherently harder for everybody in Germany to speak German, even if they're not related to me at all.

Yeah... I'm just going to go ahead and say you don't have a good argument here.
I win again.

Exact ally.

Because if you don't know how to speak German it will be harder for Germans to understand you Universally.

Its a great argument, if you are good at one doom style first person shooter then you would know the techniques used to survive. Being such, Circle strafe works just was well in Doom as it does in Serious Sam.

Well, I say....

Shitty design does make a bad game (other example: LION KING) but that is not relevant to this thread, since shitty programming has nothing to do with a gamer's skill, and therefore is not a "Hard" game but this definition.

....So have I spoken.

Which proves his point wrong, that new games wouldn't be universally hard as it's entirely possible to go into the games with an existing set of skills and ideas needed to survive.
So.... you're agreeing with me?

I'm going to attempt even asking this no matter how stupid it is....

Raven, what IS a HARD game to you? What would make it hard?

Or maybe are you just playing all the easy games? o.o
A hard game would be something that is difficult to complete.
Nothing more, nothing less.

Proving something is definitively hard is where the problem lies, since skill, player, and game all play factors.

There are a lot of those. But, seeing as how you could probably complete them eventually anyway it gets easier as you go. But if it is your first time playing a game then it would be more difficult and as you go it would get easier.

P.S. I will read posts when I get back, I am going to the store.
If there are a lot of those, then how come nobody's named one that is definitively hard in the 15 pages of the thread?

I dont know. It depends on the player. Ninja Gaiden Sigma is a bit hard to me in some ways, that doesn't mean it will be hard to you. A hard game just depends on the player. We could sit here and list off tons of games but that doesn't mean any of them would be the game title you are looking for.

I am agreeing with the fact that games can have similar mechanics.
Fighting games are the only games that take actual skill.

Others just require hours of memorization.
