In that case:

Difficulty is a variable; so is skill level.

Difficulty is proportional to skill level.

Difficulty = D; Skill = -D.

D = -D

If difficulty = -10, then skill = 10.

If difficulty = 10, then skill = -10.

If difficulty = 0, then skill = 0.

If everyone is a novice at some point (skill = -10), then that games is hard (difficulty = 10) at that same point.

Using a mathematical formula and a logical statement, I have proven that a game could be considered universally hard. After all, it is unfair to tell a novice that a game is easy if you have been playing that game for years and are good at it. Remember that all values in the formula are variables - or "opinions".

Raven was looking for facts, not opinions. Didn't need math for that one.
Then forget I said anything about math; pay attention only to the logical statements.

I am listening to other people. and im sorry if i missed it if i did i was probably posting another reply. or maybe i didnt get to it yet.
Well, shoot. I was so looking forward to your response because I'm kinda confused with what you said.

oh well, i dont want to sit here and waste my time arguing about something that really doesnt matter to me. wow lives in a video game, shouldnt we just be happy with being able to play a game and not worry about it being hard or easy unless we are looking for a challenge or just something to play? sure lives are a good thing to have but you should just enjoy your games.

Ummm...I take it you never intended to debate, huh?

Not when I got here.... >.>

My advice:
1) Learn who the regular trolls are in the VGD.
2) If you see an argument you don't want to get caught up in, just leave, especially with the regular trolls in it.

You'll save yourself a lot of trouble.

I'll take that as a victory.

And no. I can't say I've seen you before. Sorry.
A victory because you were arguing the wrong thing and not proving me wrong?

Riiiight.
Hey, whoever said what my goals were?
I just decided that it was to make you quit.

... Tails Bound?

Nope. Try again.
Eh, then I don't know him/her.

Obviously it's not a Geko or Thundurr. Scout has another account at the moment and Dauer is being an idiot...

Don't feel bad. Personally, I don't remember what Raven's main looks like. neutral
Huzza for bad memories!

Wait, it's not bad memories. She just doesn't post as often as she should. Though she does know how I beat TailsBound.

Twice.
I can say the same thing for older generation gamers. They suck at playing next gen. games like new generation players suck at previous gen. games. Plain and simple. Of course older games are going to appear foreign to our newer generation.

Older games required less skill than they required dedication and determination. How else were speedrunners of old able to complete the original Mario in under 10 minutes? Certainly not because they had some sort of natural skill, but because they played the game about 500 times and memorized where enemies appear, short cuts, when to jump, etc. You can't seriously believe they were able to do it on their 1st run? Put simply, ALMOST everything was scripted about these games.

Newer games on the other hand, allow the players more freedom. They ARE scripted, but the games allow for a wider range of approaches to the game's conflicts.

I did. Practice before you preach. neutral

edit: Don't know how the quote screwed up...but I'd also like to point out the word in red.

First off your logic has to many varibuls, like age, how long been playing, type of game, and skill level of other games instead of a universal skill level. Not to mention how to rate difficulty of games.

Stopped there.
You're obviously not going to prove that any game is hard.
Keep reading, failure.
Does the post contain the name of a game that is quite definitely hard, regardless of player or skill level?
Then there's no reason to keep reading.
You didn't prove anything.

Funny stuff, calling me the failure when you've been flailing against the brick wall of my argument for this many pages.

I would like to say that Battletoads is universally seen as a difficult game in gamer culture. Some may claim it's easy, but comparing it to the normal standard of difficulty seen in games, it becomes clear that it was definitely more demanding of the gamer's ability than most titles. Whether this defines it as difficult or not is an eye of the beholder situation.
I'm going to attempt even asking this no matter how stupid it is....

Raven, what IS a HARD game to you? What would make it hard?

Or maybe are you just playing all the easy games? o.o
@The Glorious Leader: I know; don't need to point it out to me. =P

@Danna_no_L: Actually, skill level is the sum of all that; therefore, they're not additional variables.

@Raven Incognito: Face it - you stopped reading and started chomping on your nails when I pointed out that difficulty is a variable because you know that by that reasoning, if everyone sucks, then the game is hard.

TEAR DOWN THE WALL>>>

Games are hard if you don't know how to play them. So therefore...
