Welcome to Gaia! ::

Don't get why there's a Color Swan there, especially since that never came to US shores, but otherwise, I didn't read your long, boring, Fail!troll rant.
When you play Contra for a bit it becomes second nature.

There are tons of arcade games that are definitely hard. Treasure is a company that makes tons of hard games. Ikaruga is quite the challenge.

There are games on any console that will provide some good challenge.

Play Contra or Gost and Goblens without cheats, maybe play old Megaman you know before you get things like charge shots and dashes, maybe try beating streetfighter or Fattel Furry on hardest difficulty and then there is the widow maker Batman and Ninja Giden.

And on Sega well Streets of Rage, Alter Beast, and so much more.

I mean looking back you don't hear any gamers now complainingabout diffculty and they sell PS2 and Xbox games by the dosen but it is so much harder to get older games case no one beat alot of the games and still trying or they did and it so fun they can't let it go.

I asked for proof, not conjecture.
Just because you think the games are hard does not mean the games are hard.
I've beaten Ghosts and Goblins, Contra, Megaman, Street Fighter on hard, Batman, Ninja Gaiden, Streets of Raged, Altered Beast....
I didn't find them particularly challenging at all.

As I've already said, the only implied difficulty is the number of lives you get. This does not make the game harder. It only makes it so you have a harsher penalty for failure.
Play any of those games (that have a life system) with infinite lives. They're easily doable. Why? Because they're not challenging. They just don't let you bounce back as easily.

Contra.
Is a very simple game.
The only implied difficulty is the limited number of lives.
If you'll notice, it becomes very easily doable by using the "Konami Code" and getting more than 3 lives.
The game isn't hard, it just has a harsher penalty for failure.
1 hit deaths. And when enemies can run faster than you, and touching the enemy causes death, and bullets are flying every which way, it's hard.

Now, Contra 1 wasn't that hard. Contra III and Contra Hard Corpse were hard.
I'm aware what the game is. I've beaten all the old ones.
And as I said. Play the game with extra/infinite lives. The games are much more easily doable, because you have more lenience in the number of times you can screw up.
It's only fake difficulty.

You had to use Von Karma? With his creepy, demon voice?
Caselvaina, Metroid without map...umm lets see Rocket Knight without credits Xmen for Sega while only useing one char the whole game. Xmen one without a reset buton, umm Gost Busters without a turbo controler.
1. Older games have more replayability when all you had was beating the game and that's it. Surely current gen game have no replayability even with online, DLC, and achievements/trophies.
2. Older or newer games neither is more difficult than the other.
3. Difficulty and game quality exact same as 2.
4.Yea several 25 yearold friends over your house to play games is much better than playing with someone from another part world. And if you happen to have a disagreement over a game simply removing them from your friendslist is so much worse than going through drama IRL that may result in fisticuffs.
5. Stop beeing a retro elitist.

Ghosts n' Goblins for NES

I dare you to beat the first level without dying once.
I have done so.
Then I has a challenge for you...

It's only easy because you're cheating which completely goes against what you're saying in the first place.

Playing with Extra/Infinite lives is cheating the game. It isn't a fake difficulty, you're just taking the easy way out.

I've gotten to the end of Metroid without a map. neutral No cheats. I just died at Mother Brain and couldn't finish due to the reasons Raven has already stated.

This is what I'm hearing: "Use cheat codes and the game isn't hard."

Well duh. That's what cheat codes are for. Easy mode. The point of Contra and most older games was to get the highest score. A score that is reset to 0 if you use a continue. You must have had one piss poor low score since you kept dieing.

Go back and play the game without cheats, then get back to us, 'kay?

Done it, done it, done it, done it, retarded comparison, haven't played it.

Still not proving difficulty.

PROOF.
NOT CONJECTURE.
STOP LISTING GAMES BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT PROOF.

Tip: These games are made to be beaten with a limited number of lives/continues. Games nowadays are made to be beaten with save points and/or respawns. Old games could be considered easier since they EXPECT you to not die at all.
