Welcome to Give A Gift thread, also known to it's members as, GaG. This is one of the remakes of the lovely thread that was originally created by another member, Hula The Forgotten. Due to some unfortunate circumstances, our beloved Hula has taken a permanent leave from Gaia. Since i was a member from the first GaG thread in the ball of 08, I volunteered to take it over. Please note that most of this thread it taken right from Hula's last thread. heart

GaG is home to some of the most warm-hearted and generous Gaians. There are no limits when gifting in this thread; we have no minimum/maximum price ranges for the items given/gold donated. Give as much as you want to anyone you want, as often as you want! Although we enjoy spreading the spirit of gift-giving around Gaia, we are more than just sharing pixels. Great friendships are known to form here, so stick around and meet new people! The possibilities are endless! We hope you enjoy your stay. Be sure to read up on our thread rules as well, thank you.

Please note, these are significantly MORE rules than the last thread had. If you can't stand reading this much. Read the bolded part. It stands out so that anyone can notice them. Please do NOT ignore them. However, i'm sure if you're reading this you'll probably read the rules.... o3o

I apologize for all the rules. D: I'm just... OCD about some things.

• 1. Follow Gaia's ToS. This should be a duh.
  
• 2. Respect others & be respected. Don't expect to be allowed to run your mouth and have people like you. Respect is a two way street. If someone asks you to do something, please do it. If it's something that you think shouldn't have been asked of you, PM me and i'll try to handle it to the best of my abilities.
  
• 3. NO PAGE-STRETCHING! Don't even think about it; you'll regret it, just watch. This, sadly, does mean quote towers. Try to keep them five. Three if you're using posting styles.
  
• 4. Don't whine about not getting anything. It's just annoying & it doesn't help you. It kind of makes people NOT donate to you.
  
• 5. For my sanity and everyone else's, DO NOT WHINE ABOUT BEING IGNORED. This means if no one is talking to you, then YOU need to talk to someone else. It's extremely obnoxious when three people are complaining about no one talking to them when there are two other people not talking to anyone. Open your eyes and start a conversation.
  
• 6.Watch the damn drama. If you have a problem with another person, then be the bigger person and move it to PM's. If I have to warn you more than once, you're in trouble.
  
• 7. Don't overuse the emoticons. It's annoying and can stretch the page.
  
• 8. DO NOT CANCEL TRADES. This is a GIFT-GIVING thread, not 'Send a trade & accept if you want to' thread. Don't be stupid. If you send a gift and the trade it empty on their side, don't cancel. This is giving to GIVE, not to get. The ONE exception to this rules is if the trade goes unanswered for more than a week.
  
• 9. Say thank you. If you don't, that person probably won't ever donate to you again. Power to them.
  
• 10. DO NOT quote ANYTHING from the first page. This is a duh.
  
• 11. IGNORE anyone who say stuff like 'I'm only accepting these items' and/or 'I don't want _________'. That means don't bother to give a gift to them; this is home to many generous gift-givers and we don't enjoy overly-picky people.
  
• 12. DO NOT ADVERTISE anything in this thread, unless you have permission from either me or one of the mods!
  
• 13. NO BUMPING! There's no need; we are perfectly fine w/o it. This thread moves along smoothly with or without Gift-giving, so bumping in here would be pointless.
  
• 14. ALL TRADES/GIFTS ARE FINAL, so do not be an a** and ask for the items back. You just gave it to someone; what would be the point of asking for it back?
  
• 15. WATCH YOUR FONT SIZES. 18 is the largest allowed, thank you.
  
• 16. IGNORE THE DAMNED RULE BREAKERS. If you are not a thread mod then please, PLEASE fricking ignore it. Ganging up on people, which is more than two people, is against the TOS. If it doesn't regard you, ignore it. (Also see rule five )
  
• 17. Yes, you can have a specific, unique post format, but DO NOT make it huge. We DO NOT TOLERATE overwhelmingly large pictures/art, font, blanks, etc. in your post formats! This rule is in close relation to Rule #18.
  
• 18.Yes, you can post your quests in every post. Yes, you can post it alone while you're chatting. PLEASE CHAT. If you're JUST posting the quest, it's bumping. Avoid full out role playing in the thread. :< This means ignoring everyone else and just focusing on the one person. GaG is for making friends! RP's belong in Barton Town or PM's.
  
• 19. Avoid BRAGGING about the items/gold you get; it can be offensive to others.
  
• 20. KEEP GIFTING WARS ON THE LOW. I was thinking about saying no all together, but figured that'd be annoying since a lot of people enjoy it. You may do it, but if I see screen shots, you'd better hope i'm in a good mood or you're in a deep doo-doo.DO NOT POST SCREEN SHOTS OF TRADE WARS I won't explain this one but do NOT DO IT. You'll get in deep crap. Trade wars are okay. NO SCREEN SHOTS IN THIS THREAD.

Dec.01.09 - GaG! We have a Mr.Generous! Please send General IV a PM with what YOU want for Christmas. Title the PM "Give-a-Gift Thread" so he knows who the hell you are. note a few things...

• Make sure it's a reasonable price. No Horns of a Demon or Devil Tails or Marionette. A bit above a million is okay, but don't go all dramatic.
  
• Not everyone will get what they want. He'll pick one or two people from the list to donate to.
  
• Don't beg. Be nice. Say thank you for the thought and merely include a list of some items you wouldn't mind having. Remember, HE contacted ME about this. :3


Nov.23.09 - I want to give you all a warning right now so you can't say I never did - Friday May 21st to Tuesday May 25th I will NOT be online. I will be going to Canada for a band trip. ^^ I'll also probably be sleeping the entire 26th. Hehe. My band is going to Seattle and then the Victoria area. Why am I warning you NOW? So far ahead? Pssst! FAQ stands for Frequently Asked Questions!

Q: Why did GaG change hands after so long?
A: Hula the Forgotten has sadly quit gaia. It was a decision made by a poll, and the opinion of others to change hands instead of staying with the last thread. With Hula gone the thread could have fallen into the hands of bumpers and spammers and scammers, oh my!. A user blacklisted by the creator of the thread can no longer post there. It was because of this we decided to change so that Hula could rest in... life knowing he could come back if he choose to and we would be waiting for him.

Q: How exactly do I 'Give-a-Gift'?
A: This can be done in a number of ways. The 2 most well-known methods are sending trades and sending gifts. To start a trade, do the following: Shop > Trade, and continue from there. To give a gift, go to your full inventory, click on an item, and select the 'Give as Gift' option. Fill in the information from there.

Q: Do I have to give gifts/donate to people in order to post in GaG?
A: Gifting is not mandatory here, it is OPTIONAL. Although the spirit of gift-giving is the central idea of this thread, we also encourage users to meet new people and make new friends.

Q: What do I do if Gifting is down/disabled?
A: Resort to sending trades.

Q: What happens if both Gifting AND Trades are disabled?
A: Stick around and chat in the thread. Go about your business as usual. Hoard up more gold for gifting funds, so by the the systems are back up, you'll be ready to Give-a-Gift once again. The thread is also about making new friends, so don't worry. Make some friends. <3

Q: So I just received a donation through a trade... do I have to give something back?
A: You don't have to; this is a gift-GIVING thread, not a trading thread. It's always nice to receive something in return, though.

Q: Can I be a Mod/Uber?!
A: Do not ask me this question, EVER. You'll just be ignored. If you're needed as a(n) Mod/Uber, then you're username would've been listed. Feel free to contact me if you have suggestions for mods though.

Q: I keep getting ignored/my posts are always being overlooked!! What do I do?
A: Jump into any interesting conversations you see; we don't bite. We're pretty much a family, and we're always willing to welcome newcomers. Avoid posting only emotes in your posts, or 'I'm bored', etc. It won't help you here.

Q: So some drama's going down... what do I do?
A: Nothing, let the Mods handle it. If there are no Mods online at the moment to handle the situation, then the Ubers will come in. If none of the Mods or Ubers are online to solve problems, then you are free to attempt to do so in a respectful, civilized manner. This doesn't mean that people aren't allowed to help with problems, just because they aren't Mods/Ubers. Be smart about this.

Q: Can I make a banner for GaG please?
A: Of course you can! Please PM the finished piece to .~[Misty.Muffin]~., thank you.

If you haven't noticed by now, you don't automatically received gifts/donations in this thread. You've gotta work for it; that means sticking around and chatting. Meet new people and make new friends. The more you linger in the thread, the higher your chances are of actually getting something.

• Wishlists help. Whether they're in your profile, your signature, or your post format, they help out gift-givers a lot. It gives them an idea of what you'd like, so keep 'em posted.
  
  
• Begging is a major turn-off. Even hinting that you want something. Your signature/profile/post formats are enough to notify us of your wishes, so don't go overboard.
  
  
• If gifts/trades are down, take advantage of the time to get your gifting funds up.
  
  
• Sob stories won't help you here, I'm sorry to inform you. Those who complain about being hacked, wrongfully banned, etc. will most likely be overlooked. GaGers usually donate to those who are deserving. Don't walk in an expect something right away. People will usually have to get to know you first.

Welcome to the new GaG!
My name is Nerpin, and I became entwined into this thread a few versions ago, back when Hula was originally hacked this year - I was the person pulling the strings around the account, so that the thread would get updated, until he made the newer one. I am now currently a co-owner of the new G.a.G., since Hula sort of gave it to us since we were willing to hold down the fort. I'm not always in the thread, since well. . . I do sort of live in Breedables/Changeables and Art Requests and Services, but I do pop in sometimes.

I am a Site Moderator. But not for the Chatterbox.

I am willing to take your PMs, for non-serious issues, such as questions and whatnot, but if a situation comes up and I am not online, please Contact a Chatterbox Moderator, or File a Report.

I can't baby sit you all the time.

Believe it or not, Give-a-Gift has been around for quite some time now. GaG was originally founded on the morning of July 12, 2008, the first day of Gaia's 6th Annual Ball event. It was the first gift-giving thread of that year's Ball; other gifting threads opened literally a couple minutes after GaG officially opened. Due to its amazing success that weekend ( 7/12-7/14/08 ) and by the request of many people who have posted, this thread has been remade time and time again. Rules!

• 1.Follow thread rules.
  
• 2. Respect others and be respected.
  
• 3. Keep your emotions to the minimum when taking care of business.
  
• 4. Be fair and equal to all who post.
  
• 5. Issue warnings to and/or report rule-breakers only when necessary.
  
• 6. Know the difference between drama and mere conversations/arguments.
  
• 7. File a Gaian Report if the situation needs to be taken to an actual Moderator.

Guidelines

• 1. This should be common sense by now. Just because you're a Mod in GaG doesn't mean you're immune to certain rules and/or allowed to bend them whenever you feel the need to. You are obligated to follow our thread rules at all times, just like anyone else posting in the thread.
  
• 2. I felt to include this specific rule because I can't emphasize it enough. Every time I see arguments going on in GaG, respect is thrown out the window; DISREGARDING THE RESPECT RULE WILL NOT BE TOLERATED. Just because you are a thread Mod doesn't mean you have the right to silence people when you don't like what they're saying. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, so respect it. Belittling others and making them feel inferior will result in the demoting of your Mod position. It is possible to carry out your Mod duties in a civilized manner, so think before you deal with what looks like a rule-breaker. Keep in mind that those who are being accused of breaking the rules have the right to report you for harassment if necessary.
  
• 3. Keep calm when dealing with problems in the thread. The more angry you are, the more reckless your choices are when Modding. Don't make foolish decisions by losing your cool, and don't let your emotions cloud your judgment.
  
• 4. Fairness and equality play significant roles in Modding. Trust is built from this foundation, as well as respect. pb[Rules are to be enforced the same way towards everyone; do not let any relationships (friendship, etc.) come in the way of that. There may be times in which your friend(s) break(s) (a) rule(s) in GaG -- you are to enforce the thread rules in the same way you would with any other rule-breakers. Mods are forbidden to bend the rules for themselves, much less friends.
  
• 5. You must know when it is necessary to issue-out warnings to rule-breakers, let alone report them to me altogether. Remember to keep rules 2 and 4 in mind when carrying out your reporting duties as a Mod. Scroll down and read rule #6 for more information.
  
• 6. There is a fine line between drama in GaG and mere conversations/arguments. Breaking the rules in the thread doesn't automatically cause the matter to be considered as 'drama'. We define 'drama' as 'widespread pandemonium throughout the thread'. If someone happens to be accused of breaking the rules, he/she is free to state their opinion and say what's on their mind. Rule-breakers may cause a commotion and spark arguments, but that doesn't mean that the matter cannot be discussed in a respectful manner. It can take ages for a simple conversation to continue in the thread, yet it only takes a single post to turn it into an argument. Even then, arguments between people who post can be kept under control. Everyone is free to share their opinions and pitch feedback to each other. It is only when these things get out of hand are they considered 'drama'. It all depends on how you look at it... just be sure to keep the respect rule in mind. If you have any questions as to how to determine whether something should be considered 'drama' or not, contact me asap. Don't scream drama just because a discussion is going on!
