I've encountered all of them - to the best of my knowledge - on television, in movies, in books, on the internet, in music et cetera.
I bet you've encountered censorship in all of those as well.

I doubt that I have in books to be honest.
Book censorship is harder to notice, as they just take it out.

Or just don't put it in.
True, omission is a form of censorship in a way.

Not really no, unless censorship is so general as to be a non-issue.

Any alteration from the original "final" version, is a censorship.

In which case omission is not censorship.

The option to censor curse words already exists. If people get offended by bad language and ignore these pre-existing filters, its their own damn fault. Hell, it even defaults to censor when you sign up.

Omission can be a form of censorship. Really just depends on why it was omitted.

In almost all instances it is simply because inclusion would be gratuitous.

Right. And in those cases, it's not censorship.

But in some cases, things are omitted because "it might offend someone". That is very much censorship.

You can turn this function off in your profile. In fact, the fact that you could submit the post without it censoring it in the title makes me think you did turn the filters off.

It's basically to cover their a** since young people use the site. A parent must have complained.

Well...If I knew THAT was all it would take...

As if. Even with this knowledge you cannot avoid these threads and making the clever joke of swearing in your reply to them.

Sure I could. But why would I want to?

That's exactly why you can't, your ego.

*shrug* As I said, I can if I want to. I just don't want to.

Like how you could avoid trying to pick a fight with me nearly every time you come across me, but you don't want to.

No, that is politeness.
