bet you cant prove that either.

I second that.
The amount of actual Scientific Fact that is in The Bible is staggering.
Such as the dimensions of the Ark. Scientists proved that this boat was almost impossible to capsize, due to its size and shape. They didn't have the technology back then to actually work this out!

yes but that just prooves my point, science didnt exsist 200 3000 years ago wen this bible weas suposedly writen it was all religion so how did science get in the bible? its a story made to scare kids into bein good

oh and to make ppl powerful, how powerful is the pope? he has control of half the earth,

Actually... Medical Science was at an all time high, rivaling our abilities now. Before the time of Jesus they had the ability to remove carteracts from eyes. THAT is really delicate work.

Thats almost as stupid as saying people used to live to 600

Evolution is a fact. If you disagree, please show me EVIDENCE that it is not. Do not say "Well the bible says..." This is not evidence.
Also. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peppered_moth_evolution One of the best examples of evolution ever, in my opinion. Let me know if link doesn't work, I'm not good with computers really.

How is Egyptian a religion?

Both! I do not think our theory is completly correct, but I am unwilling to deny all aspects of it. We can prove natural selection in just a few short years with animals that breed quickly. However, saying that humans were once apes seems very far fetched to me. There are still apes today. The situations that would have caused humans to develop so differently from apes would have had to happen world wide, not just in a small location.

*facepalm*
We didn't come from apes, we share a common primate ancestor with them. Also, evolution does not always kill off the 'parent' group. Sometimes another group simply splinters off due to migration and change of environment (yeast is a great example of this). As for your comment on the need for change to happen world wide... *facepalm* Humans have not always lived around the world. We started in the Africa regions and migrated.

Finally- just because you cannot comprehend something, does not mean it does not exsist. The sun's size is something no human can truly understand. The thoughts of the person sitting next to you are beyond your ability to understand. The true meaning of Infinity is beyond human comprehension- that does not mean that the sun, the person next to you, or infinity, do not exist.

In conclusion, I would suggest taking some classes on human history and evolution before basing your sole decision on misinformation.

yeah (sorta), and because of its size, and made of wood, in those rough seas, it would have cracked and leaked like crazy. they knew how to build boats back then, they'd been sailing for a while, so making a boat that was hard to capsize was within their know-how, and they also noticed larger ships capsize less. not hard to put 2&2 together. so yeah, they did have the tech to work it out, and probably even build it, but it still would have sank and failed to complete its task of carrying all those animal, against a flood that is known not to have occurred. So bible has a few facts supporting it, and many many against...

'science' did, but not the scientific method as we know it. how do you think they got agriculture going? and domestication of animals, and fire, and mudbrick/other building stuff, clay, understanding of seasons/weather/star cycles? they did test and observe things back then, but they were just as likely to credit a god, or try to work it out philosophically as follow the method we know.

lol 4laugh xd rofl oh wow I almost hurt myself. They might have the occasional cure that was lost to time (ie, eat this and you won't get x disease) but they had very little understanding of what they were doing to the body, or what what actually happening at a small scale. they picked up that bleeding, or certain foods, or certain conditions, or certain procedures would occasionally help a person, but had little real knowledge of why, just that their fiddling did something.

Lets not forget that they also used to think wearing a ruby would stop you from bleeding as easily. That's how they get the name "blood stones"

we are apes. or is it primates. or primeapes! no that's a pokemon...

actually it's both (though not the pokemon), apes/primates did evolve into humans. our ancestors are extinct apes/primates (and even monkeys i think). wiki (all hail wiki!) says "An ape is any member of the Hominoidea superfamily of primates."(here) and guess what we fall under? and our ancestors? so yeah, we are apes, we descend from apes. ape ape gape surprised

...If I had found this forum two years ago, I'd actually be in shock.

Norway has a State Church. We're a protestant country.

Yet I've never heard about anyone disbelieving Evolution before! Untill I found some threads here on Gaia, I thought it was a world reowned fact.

In the Bible it actually says that God created the world in six days. Unfortunately, way too many Christians do the mistake of taking the bible word for word. It's not six days literly! It's six periods of creation. If I'm not mistaken, it even says in the bible "A thousand years for man is but one day day God" (Not word for word, since I haven't read the bible in English, just in Norwegian.)

Also, it is said that God created earth and it's beings with his Holy Spirit. Which might indicate to Evolution. It is also said something like "Each spieces for his own", which is clearly shown that you can't interbreed to widely different species, and that similar species while capable of giving life, the crossbreed itself is born sterile.

In other words, the only way for a new species to actually come to being, is through evolution, since you can't breed forth a completely new species by interbreeding.

It is quite sad that apart from Turky, the US is the only country who doesn't have the majority believing in evolution (counting all of Europe, the US and Japan).

And if there is no such thing as evolution, how do you explain this?

"The draft sequence of the common chimpanzee genome published in the summer 2005 showed the regions that are similar enough to be aligned with one another account for 2400 million of the human genome’s 3164.7 million bases – that is, 75.8% of the genome. This 75.8% of the human genome is 1.23% different from the chimpanzee genome in single nucleotide polymorphisms (changes of single DNA “letters” in the genome). Another type of difference, called indels (insertions/deletions) account for another ~3 % difference between the alignable sequences. In addition, variation in copy number of large segments (> 20 kb) of similar DNA sequence provides a further 2.7% difference between the two species. Hence the total similarity of the genomes could be as low as about 70%"

It's been quite some time since I last took a course on evolution, so correct me if I am wrong, but is it not true that everything we know about genetics is ultimately predicated on the validity of the theory of evolution?

I was the same way lol. Thinking back, I realize that some of my friends probably didn't accept it though, but it just never came up, or I was too naive to realize it had come up. I was quite shocked when I found out people didn't accept it.

problem with that is it's still out of order, and time scale is still way off. But yeah, for all they go on about the 'deeper' or 'metaphorical' meaning of some passages, or even completely ignoring others, it's amusing that some would follow 'six days' so literally.

while not what I believe, it is possible. after all, who ever said evolution couldn't be guided by, or set up by a god. i know someone must have, but they were just close minded lol

something along the lines of 'same designer same genes' or 'we don't have to know why god did it that way, he just did. prove he didn't'. there are probably others. you'd be surprised what people can come up with.

I have an idea to solve our porblems. Lets be like normal christians. Call evolution blapshemy, and blame all major wars on the jews!

i'm not sure if it is sarcasm or not, my hearing through the internet isn't what it once was. In any case that is not the 'normal' christians, those are the extremists/radicals/fanatics/whatever. The ones that make the noise get the fuss, but it doesn't mean they are the majority.
