At my skool. i cant be a teachers assistant unless u wear a uniform- which is illegal to make us do anyway because i go to public skool.
It's not illegal for a public school to enforce a uniform. A district close to me started a uniform code for all students because of there being so many dress code issues. Now they don't even get to wear shorts ever. It's all polos, khaki or black skirts/slacks, and black/brown shoes. Gym is the only time you get to wear shorts and even then they have to reach the knees. It's really reasonable considering the things I have seen people show up in. And a lot of the parents didn't object either. One was quoted as saying, "These kids will be entering the work force very soon and dress codes like this are common at good jobs, it will just get them more prepared for what to expect"
