I'm pretty certain that no one in my family has any idea what Gaia even is. Or any of the other sites I frequent, but I sort of understand your point.

The fact that it's with a complete stranger grants you complete anonymity, which could also be interpreted as a pull-factor. It's just about the same thing as walking into a bar and hitting on someone or having a one night stand with someone you don't know.

ok. heres my opinion about cybering on gaia.

people who cyber on gaia could possibly be a rapist or like a 40 year old virgin who cybers on gaia like almost every day. I honestly think its rather stupid that people who are in the towns actually have orgys of people cybering. and, meanwhile they use the pose button so they can go up and down like their humping each other. And, i think the ToS people took care of the pose function so, people can't hump each other.

so, i guess we wouldn't be seeing a lot of people humping each other, lmao. xd :

EDIT: though, with further consideration, it would be difficult to monitor those who are 18 and those who are, again, lying about their age. I mean, I can see myself doing it simply because I'd want to hang out with people who were more mature. Though I'm 17, swiftly approaching 18, I could still see myself lying about my age.
I've seen sites that require you submit a driver's license or personal ID verifying that you are in fact 18, but I'm curious how many users would actually partake in that, due to the fact that I do know people without a drivers license at 18, not to mention the security risks.

Your comparison of Cybering to Pornography is dead on.

Pornography robs a person of the ability appreciate that which is real. Cybering takes away the reality that does come from proper sex. (Take a moment here to say that I firmly believe sex + marriage go together.) I don't think that sexual urges left untended will hurt a person. Plenty of people practice abstinence, and are perfectly okay. This is not because they do not have those same urges, but because they are living the way that they believe is right.
