ok, please put down your pitchforks for a moment... I'd like this to remain a serious topic for debate rather than a place for a bunch of monkeys to throw their own feces.
I realize that this post might be a bordering unacceptable topic, but I really would like to discuss it. I would like to clarify that I am not advocating cybering on gaiaonline, and that if this is reported for whatever reason, that this post be deleted and I be sent a pm telling me not to do this again, rather than being banned for stating my opinion. So, I was looking around the towns earlier today, and I noticed a bunch of people looking to cyber. Out of boredom, I searched through gaia to see people's opinions. Much to my annoyance, most of it was the same thing over and over. Most people seem to agree that cybering is for those who have no life and cannot get themselves a significant other offline. This is most perplexing to me. Though I may not partake in cybering and I feel it should not be done one gaia, as it is a child's site, I do not see the reasoning behind the outrage about cybering. It may not be done for the exact sexual gratification that actual sex has, but it is a way for someone to release pent up sexual energies that perhaps they do not have the option to relieve through sex, whether because of religious, safety, or even just convenience reasons. There is no risk of disease, pregnancy, scarring that might result from sex, premarital penetration, or even giving yourself to someone you aren't completely sure you love. I really don't see how it's any different than watching pornography except you have a say in the bad plot line and you are using your brain (in most cases). You wouldn't tell someone who watches porn that they cannot get a girlfriend or boyfriend would you? Can you honestly say you've never watched or thought about watching porn? As was stated quite well, in my opinion, by skull52 on the 4th page, "I sort of think of it as like a “make your own porn” the users have control over what’s being done without the actual risks that occur from having real sex. It’s like the safety of porn with the control of sex." Also, do you go up to a homosexual male or female and tell them that what they do is disgusting? It's how they prefer to release sexual energies just like a homosexual male prefers males. (I realize that this is an iffy point because of people's different opinions on homosexuality being a choice and what not. I personally believe that their sexual preference is something they are born with, or in some few unprovable cases their upbringing. However, this is not what we are arguing in this forum. :] ) So far the only reasons I've seen people bash cybering are poor excuses and highly opinion based. The only logical one I can think of at this point is one I actually haven't seen, which would be the concept that a minor fakes their age and the 18+ adult is somehow convicted of being a ***** for distributing sexual material to a minor and labeled a sex offender for life whether or not they knew the minor was indeed that. If you have other legitimate reasons, I would like to hear them and possibly debate them if you or I are around long enough. My points are not that cybering on gaia is acceptable. Gaia is a kids site, as I stated earlier, and it should indeed be against the TOS, however I do not see why people have such a hatred of it. exclaim Please discuss your opinions on cybering in a fairly civilized manor. I would prefer not to have this topic spammed with "EW, cybering is gross!!!!!!!!!!", some sort of insult to my intelegence by reffering to me as a noob, or a combination of the two. Please back up your argument, as this is the ED, not the chatterbox. |
