if you use just the symbol 金　that represents gold, money, and value. I'm not familiar with the first symbol you've listed, but 金　is the symbol used for money, and also for metal as well.

I have two chinese tattoos. One is one word. And the other is a looooong phrase (in my signature).

Be sure to get it in traditional chinese as to simplified. Makes all the difference.

As long as it means something to you and it is correct, then it should be okay.

yet be careful. (黃金) can just be a "gold". To white people Im sure it'll be fine, but you'll get cross eyed looks from Chinese people.

if you want one then get it. it doesn't matter if you can even read it or not much less others. my next piece (after a cover up anyway) is going to be chinese inspired (lion dancer). are asian symbols generic and over done? yes especially for white people to get, but really who cares it's your body and the words look nice in tattoos. emotion_dowant

For the love of God, please do not get Chinese characters tattooed on your body unless you are Chinese or have some personal connection to the culture. Anything else. Really.

Like other people have said why not go with something closer to your ancestry, or at least something everyone doesn't get. I've heard really bad stories about people getting tattoos in Chinese/Japanese thinking they mean something, but in reality they mean another thing completely different. I saw one that a person thought they were getting "Golden child" tattooed but when they asked a Chinese person what it said it meant something like "Delivery in rear."

there are only two exceptions to getting a chinese tattoo,

1, you are chinese
2, you get a chinese tattoo that says "please choose from any of the tattoo's above"
