Character Earrings: Ideas/help?

I just tried my first shrinky dink... I didn't realize they get thicker as they shrink (I suppose I should have lol). They're about as thick as the little fox in my first post. I think I just found out her secret.

I've heard a lot about polymer clay but I haven't personally tried it. I do think that everything else will have to wait until payday... Only 10 more days, tho.

How does one go about making molds? That sounds like a fantastic idea.

I found shrinky dink at the craft store. $5 for ten clear sheets and $6 for six white sheets. I've decided to try them both and see which I like better. I'm going to wait until I go to Walmart to pick up earring hooks because I think I can get them cheaper there. I will post pics of my shrinky dink attempts once they're finished.

You might find good deals online too. As for molds, they do have kits for when you start out. It should be in craft stores. Also consider this, if you are making things to sell, make sure to keep your receipts and keep track of what you've paid in materials. The IRS is an a** to artists, if you can't keep track of your costs and have the receipts to prove it they count whatever you soldit for as the profit rather than subtracting costs.I have a file where I put all my materials receipts.

If it's income, they do have a right to tax it. I figure it's better to pay the taxes rather than to have them come after you.

You're right. I'm not really into it for the profit, actually. That's just a bonus. I'm more into it because its something my mom and I can do together ( we're on opposite coasts so its hard to find "things to do together" ) AND we can make money doing it. I'm gonna use my profits to pay for plane tickets to visit her. Otherwise, I'd probably never be able to afford to see her. :3

Experiment proved true! The cute little fox earrings were made out of shrinky dink. I made little tiny bats.
I've gotta experiment with coloring techniques, tho. Markers don't seem to have a good effect.

I have an etsy account but I haven't set the shop up yet. Right now I am working on a quilt and will be making slippers, purses, picnic coolers in a bag, buttons, the eyes, plushies, clothing. Also painting clothing and jackets,portfolios, hand painted Christmas ornaments and other things, oh and at least 2 carved walking sticks and some porcelain dolls. PM me a reminder and I'll give you a link when I set up the shop. I do have block print Christmas cards I plan to sell too. Right now I am getting things together and starting the first projects. I'd have started sooner but it's only been recently that the PT helped me get enough hand dexterity to do a lot of this stuff. I will admit I was worried for a while. I even had to quit drawing for a while.

It's my whole body from about the shoulders down. I think it's related to the accident where a kid rammed a bus bench into me with a SUV and ripped up my knee because I wasn't like this before that. Now I have to walk with a seated walker. PM me now and I will save the PM and check it when I'm ready. I have a horrid memory for names so I usually as people to do this. And thanks about the art.
