I just got this stray kitten a few months ago and he's a male and has yet to be nuetered but I'm on my way to doing that very soon. I believe him to be somewhere between 4-7 months old.He was given to me by a neighbor who find him and another kitten at his house. And he's 16 Ibs. He's a sweety and super loving to everybody thats walks in the house. But I have two questions that for you.

The first is that he has worms, but he has them so bad that they are coming out of his butt, which is really gross and upsetting. I would like to cuddle with him more but I don't want little worms all on my bed. People and vets including are saying that I can tret him at home with otc deworming products. But will that be really effective and is that safe?

My second question is that as lovey as he is with me. Somethings I can get done petting him and walk away from him. Then a few minutes later he'll run away from me and hide. But then he'll walk up to me a little later and lave on me again and meow at me. But the he'll want to run away again. This goes on a lot. He's not abused and very much loved. Is this normal cat behavior?

Any help is welcome.

Take your kitten to the vet to be wormed. And if he is between 4 and 7 months old he is old enough to be neutered. Do it soon or he will still be able to spray. As far as loving on you, then running away, he's a cat. They want what they want, when they want it.

I've noticed something new with Frick. She's a normal weight, none of her habits have changed, but she has a lump on her forehead. Not a big one, slightly smaller than my thumb. I hadn.t noticed it before, but I'm sure it's fairly new. It is right above the middle of her eyes, where the M would be if she was a tabby. It won't show up in pictures. She has a smaller, similer one on to the left of her spine, two or three inches from the base of her tail. Her eye is closed again. I'm sorry if I said too much, I just really worried that its a fatty tumer. My friends dog died from one.

If you're worried about it, see if you can get her into the vet tomorrow or Monday.

I would like to, but I don't have the money to take her to the vet for something that might be nothing. If I knew for sure what it was, or had a better idea, I would be more willing to take them. I'll keep an eye on it, but I hope it dosen't get bigger.

no im not going i hate vets the put animals to sleep and its wrong mad

=/ this is awful. If you had a sick animal that couldn't be helped, eventually die, suffer all the way to their death, and probably feel helpless and scared, you wouldn't put it to sleep?

Euthanization is painless. The animal just falls asleep. It's sad, yes. I cried for long time when my dog when I was little was put down, but even at 4 years old, I knew it was for the best. My dog had gotten kicked by a cow and had severe spinal injuries. Our vet said that they could save her, but she would be paralyzed. It was have her not be able to do anything, or let her rest.

If you think Euthanization is terrible then you must think my parents are monsters. When my rabbit fell out of her hutch one night, broke her back legs, couldn't move, and was viciously attacked by some neighborhood dogs. she was in a LOT of pain and couldn't move. It was 3 in the morning. We called our vet, they couldn't come out until later in the day, and we didn't have a 24 hour emergency vet. Should we have let her suffer and bleed out in pain? My dad shot her. No, it's not the most humane method of putting down an animal, but our only other options were a hammer to the back of the skull (if done correctly can kill in one blow, or if miscalculated can cause even more pain), or break her neck. Painful but instantaneous.

There was no other option to us. We're sure she didn't even feel it. 12 gauge to the back of the head.

Yes, I cried. Yes, I was upset. I blamed myself for her falling out even though her hutch was closed and locked. I don't know how she got out, but she did.

But it was best for her.

I can't stand people who think that vet's are heartless for euthanizing pets. I've seen many vets cry when they did it. They cried with the family. But they made a promise to help the animals in any way necessary. Sometimes it is.

Hi! My name is Xana and I am a small animal (pet) veterinarian who putters around on Gaia.

I have been answering questions on the Ask the Vet Tech thread and in the Furry Critters Guild.

But I thought I would start my own thread and see how it goes.

Unfortunately, since I cannot see or touch your pet, I cannot make a diagnosis or prescribe medications. But often there are things that can be done at home to help your pet. And I can advise you on what to ask your local vet about. I can also advise you if it is a problem that needs to see a vet.

PLEASE DON'T BE SILLY! IF YOUR PET IS INJURED OR ILL, SEE YOUR LOCAL VET NOW!

I will be checking this thread daily for any new posts or questions.

Any gifts will be gratefully accepted and appreciated, but by no means required.

Please do not spam this thread. You will be ignored!

Unfortunately, Gaia has infected my computer with a severe virus and until I get the 'puter fixed, I cannot be here. Sorry!

My family has owned birds for a while now...our Conure had the same problem for a while. The cut should heal soon, however you should keep close watch on it's behavior. If she is totally avoiding standing on that foot (it's normal for birds to stand on one foot at a time, but they will usually switch to avoid one leg getting too tired) then you should be concerned. Also, if she spends alot of time on the bottom of the cage, you should take her to a vet that treats Exotics.

Hope that helps

Virus? o.o

Anyways..not sure if you can answer this..

My dog refuses to get in the car. Every time.

When he was a puppy (btw hes a yellow lab) he would love to get in the car, and he would sleep. Now he just stands. We put a kennel in the car so he would be more comfortable with blankets and chew toys, but still doesn't like the car.

Can I get any suggestions?

Try baiting him with treats, toys, and such. Then let him go in and out as he pleases.

A reason he might not want to get in the car is his memory. He might not remember all the times he rode in the car, so he might be afraid of it.
Try playing with him in the car, so he can get used to it again.

You are a terrible person.

Euthanization is painless, and one of the most the most humane way of putting a suffering, helpless animal to rest.

If people just let animals die scared, alone, and painfully, then what kind of terrible people would we be? I'll tell you what: monsters. Animals are just as human as us, just a bit different.

Would you let your best friend die alone, and painfully? Would you let him/her be in pain the whole time they slowly lost their lives?
That's what you would be doing if you didn't euthanize a suffering animal.

I think you mean to say we're just as much of animals as them. Seeing as humans are animals not the other way around. I get your point, I'm just being nit-picky
