Welcome to Gaia! ::

Hello,
I have to say that this is nice to see, I haven't seen many animal lovers around Gaia. I have five cats, they just seemed to find us, and two dogs. I also show boxers with my grandmother xD

But anyway on to my question. I have a ten month old puppy, mixed breed, who seems to love to chew on our kitten, whom may be about eight or nine months. He has lots of toys [I have to buy him a new bone every three weeks because he destroys them] At first it was cute and we know he's just playing, not actually trying to hurt him. But now it's getting not so cute, he's leaving sore's all over the poor kittens neck! We've tried almost everything to stop this, buying him more toys, locking the kitten up away from the puppy when we leave the house, watching the puppy when we are home. It's not like he doesn't have other people to play with, we have a Jack Russel terrier and three other cats that he can play with, two of our cats are outside cats and come inside on rare occasions. Is this something to be concerned about and how do we get him to stop?

Also I have a cat who's right front leg is useless, the vet said that she either got hit by a car or someone kicked her when she younger. We took her to the vet when my mom found her by the local cheveron. The vet told us that there was nerve damage but otherwise she was fine. It's been almost nine months since then and on the paw there are a couple of sores. I've been watching her and it doesn't seem like they are hurting her but the fur has fallen out in these small spots and I'm worried. Should I get my mom to take her back to the vet?

SOMETHING I REALLY NEED TO SAY!!!!
Hey, I'm not a vet, but I volunteer at lots of pet organizations. Before you buy a pet from a pet store like a dog or a cat, please know that there are tons of animals in pounds and organizations like Second Chance that need a home. They are pets that have been abandoned, mistreated, and just strays, and they just need a chance. All I'm trying to say is, before you go to a breeder, or a pet store, check out your local pound or pet organization, please! Dogs and cats every where will appreciate it! blaugh
FYI, I got my kitty Carmon from Second Chance, and I love her to pieces!! heart

sorry, just had to say this... sweatdrop

I'm glad someone said this. I also volunteer at my local humane society, so I know how great those animals are. I got my cats there!

Also, another thing you might want to think about is that at pet stores, sometimes the puppy/kitten's mother was at a mill. That means that the parents are just forced to mate over and over, being emaciated and such until they outlive their 'usefulness.' I think it's just sad. D:

That's what I was thinking. It makes me feel good knowing that I saved an animal.

Nothing reliable. I recommend getting a dewormer from your veterinarian.

I have a dog and last year he got all his shots and everything and this time I couldn't afford it, I got him his worm pills but not his heart worm shot yet but will asap when I have money.
I was wondering what his chances are of getting heart worms or other sickness that all the shots cover before I have the chance to get the shots... lets say 1 month tops but probably not that long.
i got a good ? how do i know how long my hamster will if we got her young at he pet store we got her from they never lasted long she is still being active and eating good how much time do u think she may have left question
I got a question about my guinea pig. You see, ever since last year he has got this lump on his hip, like right on the left hip joint, and he hasn't been gaining weight at all. His twin brother died not too long ago,and I'm worried that since the lump has not gone away, and he is still alive,is it a sist or something like that?

I can't afford to take him to a vet. crying

I'll answer this for Xana. Your Guinea pig, from the description has CANCER, unfortunately, and untreated that will most likely die, so far, you've been lucky, but if you can't afford the vet anytime in the near future... well... things might be bleak for your pet.

Keep him well fed and watered, to keep his strength up, his body is currently in a fight for it's life and so far it's a Stalemate. Sorry to burden you with this bad news Mira. crying

FMA, i don't know, wait for Xana to respond, but it might be getting water up it's nose, and trying to cough it up.
hello everyone!i have a hamster called speedy biggrin and i've had him for two years.
for those of you who are thinking about getting a hamster, here is some useful tips:

1.if you use absorbent cotton bedding, change the bedding every 1-2 weeks at most.
2.for the food,i recommend WILD HARVEST.i use it,and other foods give my hamster diarrhea. redface
3.for treats, you may give them small amounts of vegetables, lettuce is best,(warning!always wash it first, and take out they next day for it will rot and get your hamster sick!!!) cry
4.hamsters are very awesome climbers and can easy escape there cage!if you get a tank, get a net lid!also, they love tubes to climb through!
5.if you ever feel the need to give you hamster a bath, listen carefully!YOU MAY NOT STICK THEM IN THE SINK OR THEY WILL GET SICK!!what you need to do is get a cheap toothbrush, that you don't use.damp it the run it across its fur.after,it would give them a less chance of getting sick if you dry them with a towel!
6.when holding, always make sure they have room.and when you want to take it out of its cage,DO NOT CORNER IT!it will feel threatened and may or will BITE YOU! crying .handle carefully.
7.this is my and other peoples opinion,..girl hamsters are more aggressive and tend to bite more often.they do have a period, but they do not bleed and it is not 1 week a month.it is not really known.also, look up picture so you know is it is a boy or a girl.ask people before you buy it.

for more info, look up some experts or go to a pet store near you! smile

also, their cage cannot be cardboard...they will chew through! xp

take care!add me if you want to talk or have any questions!
Im very scared about my pet puppy, shes coughing up blood and wheezing really bad,do you know whats wrong with her?

Ok, my rat is oh, a half a year to a year old. He sneezes on occasion and I'm an overprotective mommy. Should I take him to the vet over something that sounds like wheezing but only the occasional sneeze if it doesn't look like his eyes or nose is bleeding?
i so left a very important tip out!!! sweatdrop
if you have any animals, they will scare you're hamster!!!
you're hamster might be young, but they can have a heart attack!
have a secure cage, and never let it Rome in its ball alone heart !the cat will bat at it!
(also, don't leave it in there ball to long.they will fall asleep soon and its not comfy!
redface sorry!take care! blaugh
