Abilites: A powerful shaman of the Asakura clan, he strived to become Shaman King one thousand years prior to the start of the story. He had mastered all the arts and techniques of Onmyoudou, including the ability to see the future, use reishi (soul sight), command powerful spirits and allow and control the circumstances of reincarnation ( chooses 500 year increments).

Hao had the reishi (a form of telepathy that allows the user to see the hearts of others), but he could not control the limit of the power. Because he lived in a time of war, disease, and famine (the Heian period), he attempted to help others with his powers. However, he began to see the darker side of human nature as he discovered through his reishi that those he helped thought him to be evil. His heart became consumed with hatred for humanity and began to plot the destruction of humanity by becoming Shaman King.

Hao learns of the Shaman Fight, of which the winner becomes the Shaman King. He comes to believe it is the key to cleansing the world of non-shaman, which he felt were defiling the natural world. His plans are discovered and the Asakura clan gathered against him and defeated him.

His mastery of the five elements of nature (fire, water, earth, wood, and metal) prevented his permanent death as he could now control the circumstances of his reincarnation. He chose to be reborn 500 years later, in time for the next Shaman Fight. His new incarnation was as one of the Patch, the clan that organises the Shaman Fight. His eventual descendants include Silva, a distinguished Patch Official who serves as a referee in shaman fights.

He was killed once more, by Asakura Yohken with the assistance of Matamune (his former loyal companion) using the Futsu no mitama(the Antiquity in the English anime), a sword of spirits, and the Senhachijuu (only in the anime), a set of 1080 prayer beads containing powerful spirits of the Asakura family.

Despite the fact he died before becoming Shaman King, he achieved his goal of capturing the legendary Spirit of Fire for use as his guardian spirit in his next life. The Spirit of Fire is one of the five most powerful spirits in the world. (The other four are the air, earth, water, and spirit).

Abilities/Techniques

Note: Because Hao mastered all five elements, he can simply change the Spirit of Fire into any of the other elemental spirits as he wishes. The only reason he uses the Spirit of Fire instead of the others is because he likes fire. The only spirit capable of defeating any one of those five are the great spirits themselves.

Reishi (霊&#35222 wink This is the ability to read the hearts of others. Whilst in some ways a useful ability, it is incredibly hard to control, with the end result that Hao was constantly inundated with the thoughts of those surrounding him.

Taizanfukun no Sai (泰山府君ノ&#31085 wink Taizanfukun is the ancient Chinese name for the King of Hell, who judges the dead and decides their fate. It is through this technique that Hao was able to be reborn 500 years later as one of the Patch, and then again 500 years later.

Ring of Fire (リング・オブ・ファイア&#12540 wink An attack similar to that of Yoh's ShinkkuBuddha Giri (Celestial Slash)

Events of Shaman King

Upon Hao's second reincarnation, he chooses to be reborn as a member of the Asakura family once more. However, his soul ends up splitting in two; the other half becomes Hao's twin brother, Yoh Asakura. That made both of them the reincarnations of the original Asakura Hao, and it was said since Yoh was in a sense Hao, as the two of them were once one and the same person, he might be the only one able to come close to defeating Hao.

As he is being born into his third incarnation, Yohmei Asakura attempts to assassinate him, but hesitates at the last moment. The moment of hestiation is enough as the Spirit of Fire (Depowered form) appears and takes Hao away forcefully. In the fight that ensues, Mikihisa Asakura, Yoh and Hao's father, is permanently disfigured, and has to wear a mask at all times. While Asakuras had failed to prevent Hao from attempting to becoming Shaman King, the birth of Yoh brought hope that Hao would finally be defeated.

In this form, Hao is Yoh's identical twin, who is a smaller part of Hao, and he has regained a body with the powerful blood of the Asakura lineage. His guardian spirit is the Spirit of Fire. However, because of the Spirit's journey back, it lost much of its power, which it regained by comsuming other souls. By the time of the Shaman Fight, he is as powerful, if not more, than he was when stolen from the Patches.

On another note: Hao mentions in the Manga just before killing Lilirara that the Spirit of Fire's flames are so intense, they are capable of burning through "flesh, bones, and even souls", not sure what he could do with the other elements, though...

Kisame

Name: Hoshigaki Kisame, 干柿鬼鮫
Age: 291 when first introduced, now 312
Rank: None, Nukenin (Missing-nin)
Height: 195 cm2
Weight: 83.1 kg2
Birthday: March 18
Blood Type: AB
Ring: 南 (Nan, south)
Position: Left ring finger
Partner: Uchiha Itachi
Affiliation: Akatsuki, Nukenin (Missing-nin) from Kirigakure (Hidden Mist), Kiri no Shinobigatana Shichinin Shū (Seven Swordsmen of the Mist)

Signature Abilities: Samehada, Suiton: Suikōdan no Jutsu (Water Release: Water Shark Bullet Technique), Suiton: Bakusui Shōha (Water Release: Exploding Water Shockwave), Suiton: Goshokuzame (Water Release: Five Eating Sharks), Mizu Bunshin no Jutsu (Art of the Water Doppelganger), Suirō no Jutsu (Water Prison Technique)

Hoshigaki Kisame, along with Uchiha Itachi attempted to kidnap Uzumaki Naruto the first story arc, Part I, but were thwarted by Jiraiya. Itachi later explained that it wasn't the proper time to kidnap Naruto yet. Kisame and his sword Samehada (鮫肌, "Shark skin" wink both have shark-like characteristics. The sword also has the ability to drain and eat chakra.

Kisame comes from Kirigakure. He is known as the Mysterious Person of the Hidden Mist (霧隠れの怪人, Kirigakure no Kaijin). He is also one of the Kiri no Shinobigatana Shichinin Shū (霧の忍刀七人衆, "Seven Swordsmen of the Mist" wink , seven powerful ninja who utilize large and unique swords. Momochi Zabuza and Kurosuki Raiga (anime only) were also members.

The amount of chakra Kisame possesses is apparently considered very large, even by the Akatsuki's standards. The Leader commented on his amount of chakra; a Kisame body-double at 30% power, made with the Leader's Shōten no Jutsu (Shapeshifting Technique), had as much chakra as Uzumaki Naruto possessed while drawing on the Nine-Tails chakra when he fought Neji during the Chūnin exams. A similar observation was made by Hyūga Neji when he observed Kisame's body-double with his Byakugan. Kisame also has immense physical strength as he demonstrated against Sarutobi Asuma and later against Might Guy.

Like everyone seen from the Hidden Mist Village, Kisame uses water element jutsu in combination with his powerful physical attacks.

Trivia

* Kisame (鬼&#39851 wink means demon shark, probably a reference to his tall height and appearance.
* Hoshigaki (干&#26623 wink means dried persimmon.
* Kisame's shark-like appearance and his sword Samehada are rumored by fans to have been related to the Three-Tailed Shark in Japanese legend known as Isonade and his subordinate Samehada. Some fans think that one of the Bijū (Tailed Beasts) taken already by Akatsuki was an Isonade, and Kisame now contains it. This could explain his unusual amount of chakra and possibly his peculiar appearance; other fans differ, believe that his character is just inspired by the mythical monster, and he doesn't actually contain the Bijū. At least, not at this point.
* Kisame is the only other person to use Suiton ninjutsu without a water source besides the Nidaime Hokage.
* Kisame doesn't seem to mind taking orders from other members of Akatsuki, it more appears he sees them as his friends and always wants to hear their opinions.
* Like all Akatsuki members thus far, Kisame is surprisingly very honorable. An example of this is when he wouldn't let anyone get in the way of Itachi and Sasuke's fight, because he believed it was family matters. He also feels honored when Kurenai and Kakashi reveal that they have heard of his name prior to meeting him; coversely, he seems very offended when Maito Gai fails to remember who he is during their second encounter.
* His sword Samehada eats chakra and only listens to Kisame. When Maito Gai attempted to hold Samehada, it responded with a flurry of needles from its hilt, and ultimately found its way back to Kisame.

Info obtained from Wikipedia... sorry if I didn't get quite enough on Kisame... I -hope- this doesn't turn out lopsided sweatdrop

So... Debate 3nodding
Well... I think I'm gonna have to give the match to Hao.
Kisame may be strong but he lacks the kind of intellegence needed to win a battle against someone like that.

its true domokun
Just a little advice Garrin. If you use his real translated name, then use the real translation of the ability. It's Mana, not Furyoku.

Now, onto the thread's topic. Yeah, the only thing that can harm an Oversoul is another one. Now, reguardless of this technicalty, didn't Hao use the spirit of fire to effortlessly nuke an entire forest?
i say Kisame he has a big a** sword

Actually it is originally Furyoku, Mana was the term used in the Manga, but I've double checked, and Furyoku (along with Reiryoku) are indeed the original terms (the one thing 4kids didn't screw up damn them and their bastardization of perfectly good anime... mad ) And I was thinking that Furyoku/Mana worked similarly enough that it was still vulnerable to Samehada to a degree... and I don't think it ever mentions Hao using the Spirit of Fire in an Oversoul... the only time I remember him actually Oversouling it was when he dueled against Yoh before he took Yoh's soul and recombined it with himself. Remember: It had a physical form when it rescued him while he was a newborn baby, so that couldn't have been an Oversoul at that point.
My apologies, I'm so used to 4Kids ******** up and butchering the animes they get their hands on that I assumed Furyoku was the wrong term.
I dunno, both Hao and Kisame are really strong. But I went with Hao because like someone said earlier, Kisame lacks strategies.
Kisame, since he has incredible amount of chakra and strength.
Kisame-san with his all powerful sharky-seck-c-ness! xd
Sugihide
Kisame, since he has incredible amount of chakra and strength.
I should just like to point out that if you check Hao's Furyoku stat, it's pretty high up their, too, expecially when you consider many other's were only in the 100's, and Yohmei mentions that one can't increase the amount one is born with on one's own. (Yoh had to go through a near death experience to increase his). I will concede that Kisame does most likely dwarf Hao in the brute strength department, however (Although he does have an elemental spirit to make up for it).
if you take into account the whole "an oversoul can only be defeated by another oversoul" thing (and btw, if you've seen episode 50-something (can't remember the exact epi number, but it was the episode when all of the X-LAWS were trying to defeat Hao and all but Jeanne, Lyserg, and Marco got killed), you'd know that Hao uses oxygen to oversoul the SoF most of the time, since fire needs oxygen in order to burn), and the fact that although Furyoku and Chakra may be similar in concept, furyoku is different in the fact that only shamans posess it and/or can use it effectively, so it most likely won't be affected by the Samehada. therefore, Hao could probably nuke Kisame before you could say "oversoul."
AAAAA HAO WOULD TOTALLY OWN THAT GUY!!! HE IS THE BEST! whee heart heart heart AND SO POWERFUL!
In my opinion, Hao would win. He knows Reishi, which helps plan strategies, so he's always one step ahead. And, the Spirit of Fire is really powerful, and no other elements can harm it.

Edit: And if Hao died, he could just reincarnate himself in 500 years. ^^;

Plus, I'm a Mankin fan. ^^;;
