I was mixing up my cream cheese and turned on the beater. The crust was in the oven.
When I turned on the beater, it just died. I was confused, then noticed the microwave clock was off. The oven light was off, the stove clock was off. Basically all the outlets in the kitchen, except for the refrigerator were not working.
And I thought, "Oh, I just tripped a circuit or something"
So I went downstairs and opened the box. Nothing was flipped. But I turned on and off the ones labeled kitchen and dining room just in case. And as I'm down there, I swear I hear the sound of many tiny things up in the ceiling of the family room. I'm hoping it's not a hive of bees, because we had one up there once. But that would be silly, they'd be . . . asleep now right? Maybe it was rodents. Maybe nothing.
When I go back up, nothing is still functioning. I have no oven, stove, or microwave. WTF.
Did rodents just chew through the single wire supplying electricity to those outlets? Is that even possible, does such a wire exist? I don't know what to do!
