LEAVING GAIA, GIVING IT ALL AWAY

I've been on Gaia looong time, almost since the beginning, give or take few months. And I've learned a lot in that time.

RANT ABOUT WHY I'M LEAVING(feel free to skip, I'm not interested in your opinion on my decision to leave)

But mainly, I've lost faith in them. Completely. They've banned innocent users. They've shut down my threads/shops unjustly. They've done just about everything in their power to insult, reject, ignore and otherwise make it NOT FUN for me to be here. I've been disillusioned with just about every aspect of their site, from the lack of moderation, to the lousy pixellists(yes, with few exceptions, I think the pixelwork here is EXTREMELY sub par, and I would know) and treatment of their "premium" members vs regular users. Premium members don't get treated any better than regular users, and trust me, since I've donated a total of several hundred dollars to this site back when it was worth donating to, its true. And regular users are left to the knowledge that Gaia is free to play, but not to enjoy. Everyone on this site is nothing but a dollar sign to Gaia nowadays. They outright lie to avoid leaking information about site updates (the zOMG title, as one of many instances). RIGs with a less than 2% chance at a decent item are despicable, in my opinion. I think if your users are PAYING you for PIXELS, you should be giving them whatever item they actually want--not giving them a slim "chance" at it or forcing them to waste countless hours (and/or hundreds of real life money) questing to get enough gold.

Nothing the users do will ever be good enough for those in charge here on gaia. This is a multi-million dollar company nowadays, and there is still no sign that its getting better--only worse. Every year, consistently, every month even.

This site was fun, when it was first made. People chatted on the forums in much more civil tones than nowadays, with Gaia is overrun by spam and trolls.

I've been an active member on almost every forum at one point in time or another. Chatterbox, even. But mostly the art, writing, and other productive forums. I've run several art shops, charities, exchanges, even a 'wedding' shop at one point. So I know there is still talent, and good people here.

What I want to know is WHY they're still here. Gaia does not deserve it.

2. Don't beg. I'll donate to lots of people, but begging decreases your odds. I've got at least 30 million in items and 1 million gold. I'll spend what remains of my site cash and give that away too because cash items look like trash nowadays too anyways.
3. Be courteous. If you come in here acting like a monster or being rude, I will ignore you. With that in mind, I did not open this charity as a discussion thread. I *am* leaving. Comments regarding my rant above should not be posted here. I just don't care. The rant was to explain the reasons why I'm leaving(since this is afterall, MY thread), not to spark a debate.
4. DO NOT PM ME. I am checking this thread daily, so post in it if you want something. I donate to every Gaian I see in this thread that follows the thread rules. I am deleting my PMs(that aren't from Gaian's on my friendslist).

So to sum up, I'm leaving, and taking all my bitterness with me. But I don't want to leave my items and gold to rot, that seems stupid. Someone will be just "overjoyed" to cater to the materialistic BS that *is* this site today. So this thread exists to give those things away. Maybe art too, to celebrate the release of my OWN avatar community site(yeah, you can take that as a middle finger, Gaia, because it is). We'll see whether or not art happens, for now this thread is just a charity for gold and items.

What I've already given away so far(meaning don't ask for it. Actually you shouldn't be asking for anything if you've read the rules...)

I hate how everything I enjoy is amazing when it first starts, but once they see the $$$ coming in, it all changes.

That's an understandable reason. But all communities eventually get to this point. I tried Solia (rather new one) and I had this feeling that I was a totally unwanted outsider, with only a few people taking a notice of my presence. Others were too busy talking among themselves - so called veterans - to pay any attention on my strive to get a chatting pal or two. Here I was accepted from the first post.On the other hand they have contests that value your talent. I think Gaia might eventually get to this point. It has a lot of room (and means) to improve.

I'd "left" gaia ages ago already, too... but my sis and I have this dorky idea that we could leave our Gaia accounts around so that her children can "inherit" them. Heh. Only reason why I linger around and occasionally play a game.

I agree wholeheartedly with your feelings of bitterness, though, and have a bunch of those myself. /lesigh/ But leaving is a very decisive, purifying step, and I admire you for taking that step.

I've been on Solia too - still have my account there, really, but I don't really visit it much at all... but I also felt the same way as you, that it was a rather closed off community. I was lucky enough to have joined it right from the get-go, and to have friends from other avatar-based forums join too. But once they left, there wasn't much of a "community" to get involved in, imho.

I do still like a lot about Solia, but starting out there is -really- hard.
