Don't you just hate being the "dependable" one? I get that at work, and then I do all this extra stuff for the department with no recognition. It's not like I want a medal or anything, but at our little meetings, when they're recognizing all the guys for sales and credit card apps and attachments and services, it would be nice if just once, they recognized someone who went above and beyond in some way whose bottom line wasn't revenue. I do that little things that keep our department together like fix incorrect tags, downstock, clean, inform everyone on little bits of employee news I know they don't read, do functionality checks, and every single week I find some inventory errors and report them to the product process team. There's even a little clearance cart that I keep neat and stocked even though it's no where near my job. And I get all of the opening shifts because three times a week, someone has to come in two-three hours early do ad-set, reprint certain tags, and other such tasks. Who does them all? Me. Because I'm good at it, and anyone else would whine about the work and the hours.

So needless to say, I'm stoked about the possibility of shifting to the product process team. I actually talked to the PP manager today, she pulled me aside and we spoke a little about the kind of work I would help the other girl with and how soon they really actually need someone to start training. Sooner than I thought! Pretty much as soon as we hire and train and few new people for my department, I'm going to start having shifts in product process to learn how to do the other girl's job and help prep the store for BIG store audit in April.

As to the moving around vs staying in one spot, it's definitely a "grass is greener" thing. xD I always chat with the cashiers about how bored they get stuck behind the register, and then I complain about having to literally run back and forth across the store all day. I think it's better exercise being able to move around, but also a significantly better chance of hurting yourself on the job. I sprained my ankle just from moving around on my feet all day during the pre-holiday hours. Sprained with no injury. That sucked xD
It does get quite annoying, especially when feeling unappreciated at home for all the running around I do. It's going to be weird when my sister actually gets over her fear of driving and is driving on her own all the time. I'll likely not know what to do when that happens, but as that's probably several months away, I can only imagine how that will be. xd

Oh, I know a bit of how that is, with cleaning at work, and no one really recognizing you. Early last week I did some cleaning of the registers, getting some of the worst gunk and crap off of the metal areas around the belt, down to the floor, and I think only two of the CSMs knew I was actually cleaning, and working hard at it. When I was done that day, I got a 'thank you and we appreciate you', type deal, but that's about it. The worst part is that the manager of the store actually has four people that he hired to do the heavy cleaning of the registers every week, and they get four eight-hour days a week for the job, but by how hard I had to work to clean just six of the thirty registers we have, you can tell how often it doesn't actually get done. I know my legs and hips were sore from all of the stretching, and kneeling, and moving around I did, and I only was cleaning for just shy of four hours. gonk And then I was sore for the next two or three days after. xp

That would be nice, if they did recognize you in a meeting like that. Kinda like, "Hey 'Kitty', we really appreciate all that you do in the store to help keep us running well, and make sure everything is organized, etc., and everything else you do to go above and beyond." That's an awesome possibility! Kinda would make me wanna get people in there that would be good for the job, and it would be like, 'Get in here so I can train you for my job, so I can switch departments.' xd

Oh, I know there are positives and negatives to everything. Like for your current position, running all over the store is good exercise, but in constantly running all over, you have the possibility of stretching or straining something, like you've obviously already experienced, without tripping over anything, or injuring yourself. Just from plain overuse did the sprain come about. 3nodding

It's even gotten to the point, that when I'm home, even as tired as I am from standing all day, I still stand around in the kitchen for a few good hours. I had two days off in a row this week, and the same this upcoming week, and I re-realized that sitting all day in a chair, no matter how comfy, is not great for my back, no matter how I sit. gonk I will just have to remember to remind myself that I do need to get up and move around more on my days off, no matter how I would want to just sit and be lazy, that doesn't do any good for my back. But, it's time to get ready for a busy weekend at work, and as long as things don't change, I'm going out for a game night on Saturday. Which is gonna be fun, and a bit different, seeing as I don't usually get out very often. The last time was New Years, so a month later is getting a bit of frequency going on. xd

Appreciation at work would be nice, but before that I would really like if all the negativity would stop. I work with some really hard-working teachers that are doing everything they can to help their students succeed and all we hear at meetings is how disappointing we are and how it's highly likely that ten of us will be laid off at the end of the year (meaning we can no longer work in the entire district). I was at the school 12 hours yesterday. I did get recognition from one of the other teachers yesterday. He came in while I was helping with the after school mentoring/tutoring program and said, "Wow, I've seen you all over the school today, helping everywhere!" It's nice and means a lot coming from a peer just to be noticed. They know how hard the job is without all that extra stuff.

Meanwhile my principal told me to sign up for 6 hours of classroom management workshops on a Saturday because 2 students (who have trouble in ALL of their classes) got a 77 and 78 in my class. Out of 400 students, only 2 with high 70's and I get the smack down.
Wow, that just really sucks overall for you, Loch. sad It really would be great to actually get more recognition for certain things more often, but especially for someone like you, who is helping to educate so many children to the best of your ability. What's really sad is that your best doesn't seem to be worth anything to most higher ups there, and that only the other teachers on your level really understand how much time and effort can be put into the student's education.

That makes no sense to me, about having you take workshops for just the two students. If it had been more students, and their main issue was in your class, it would have sounded more plausible. But, if those two are having issues in all of their classes, then they should probably focus on helping the students to get help they need rather than giving you the 'smack down', especially when they aren't even failing the class. Plus, making you take more of your free time to do the workshops is just the 'icing' on the cake. sad
Ahh, my 'weekend' is over, and I even managed to get one day where I didn't have to go anywhere at all, and stayed in my pjs all day. xp Now to go get me a shower and change into clean clothes for bed. Today was just one of those days where it felt like I could sleep for a hundred years straight before I felt restored.

I think on Friday, when I have a late and short day, I'll play on my Wii, but before I can do that, I need to get some batteries for the remotes, as the ones we have in them currently are dead as anything. But, considering that it's been a year since the system has been used at all, it's not really all that surprising. sweatdrop I would probably not have actually taken action to use the Wii, if it hadn't been for going over a friend's house this weekend, and playing two of the dance games she has. Which makes me want to actually get out the dance game we have for our Wii, and play that, in anticipation for whenever the next game night will be held at her house. 3nodding Plus, some of the dances in the game are great exercise. xd

The principal is just tryin' to make a point with me because I wouldn't change everyone's grade to 90%.
I remember a couple teachers I had in high school, would round the grades up, depending on what the highest score on a test was, especially if most of the class had especially low grades. I think the theory was that if the top grade was 90/100, then everyone's score was upped by 10 points, or something like that. But, if they just want you to give everyone their grade, without making them earn it, that's not really fair on any of the students. sad

Yeah, that's the old curve. I never agreed with it. I always felt like it was lazy of teachers to bring everyone up to keep from re-teaching what obviously the entire class did not get. But my principal thinks EVERYONE should get a 90%. You worked your backside off and would have otherwise gotten a 100%? Sorry, 90%. The guy sittin' next to you that has been an annoying jerk who does nothin' but cause problems and distractions? 90%. Why should anyone try?

Why am *I* trying?!
Because you have some hope left in humanity? xp

Came down with the effects of a cold/allergies the past couple days, which have left me feeling like crap. Thankfully I've either been off, or had short days the last half of this week, so I can try to get rid of this icky feeling sooner rather than later. 3nodding

Feelin' any better today? heart
Eh, it's about the same, which is better than feeling worse today, but still, I'd rather not feel crappy at all. All I can do right now is stay on top of it with the medicines for cold and allergies, and hope it goes away sooner rather than later. 3nodding

So, my body apparently decided to make a liar out of me, which it's done to me every once in a while. sweatdrop Started a bit of a downturn Saturday evening, and into all of Sunday. While I did have to work on Sunday, it was also the day that I couldn't sleep at all, likely had a fever for a while, nasal congestion was extremely bad, and I was lucky to get anywhere near two hours of sleep. Thankfully Sunday was a relatively short day for me, as much as it felt like it dragged on forever. gonk I've had a bit of improvement since then, though the main thing I'm concerned about is that the left side of my jaw felt pretty much like someone had punched me in it. I have gotten some relief with using a heating pad, though there's still some stiffness and tenderness from the congestion still being there. Otherwise, I seem to be fully, if slowly, on the mend from this whole mess. 3nodding

Heating pads are your friend.
I'm definitely coming to find that, especially where the congestion is located. Plus, when I need a bit of a break from the heat on my face, I can use it on other areas for short periods of time to help them relax. Especially in my shoulders and all over my back, pretty much. 3nodding

Thankfully I have just one more day to work, then I get one off. And in the meantime, I'll keep working with the heating pad, and see how the rest of the week goes. 3nodding
