The old and decrepit message happens when a thread hasn't been posted in for a while (sometimes it's a month, sometimes it's longer). It's there to prevent thread necroing and is removed when the thread creator posts in the thread again.

Or freeze dried ice cream perhaps? I've heard a lot of people don't like those but I'm a big sucker for them.
