I'm on an 18.6kbps connection, according to cnet's bandwidth tester.
Max download speed is usually around 2kb.
*steals Kirin's internet connection*

have you ever considered satellite or a 3G connnection?

What makes you think they'd be able to get 3G in an area where they can't even get DSL/Cable internet? Seriously, that's just... dumb.

As for satellite, satellite is terrible if you ever, EVER intend to play any sort of game online, no matter what it is. The minimum ping on satellite is like, what, 750ms? And that's on a good day?

????
Not really, I live half a mile outside of the range where it would be possible to get cable and at the very border of where DSL is feasible, yet get strong Cell signals from all providers in my area.

Cell phone service is not 3G. 3G service is very limited.
In all seriousness,

Living in Latin America sucks for internet speeds. :/

as I said, I can't get cable or DSL, and this is Alltel's 3G (blue is EVDO, yellow is EVDO Rev.A, and the purple is 1X-RTT), its pretty solid actually, Verizon and Sprint also have a pretty large 3G network
The couple of neighbors I have use Alltel; one of them paid for EVDO, tried it at my house; it was slower and disconnected more than dial-up.

I've looked into satellite but the price tag and slow speed has turned me away from it.
The neighbors with EVDO don't have a phone line but sometime in the next several months (or something like that.) the phone company is running a phone line down the road; we're thinking at that time or shortly after, they'll run DSL lines down the roads around here.

@Nightfly: I'm like 18 miles from the DSL coverage area and there are no cable providers. (TV or otherwise. It's satellite or bunny ears.)

EDIT//
Checked it, I'm something like 18 miles from the phone companies DSL service station.
DSL from Cincinnati Bell.
We've got a wireless router so I max out at about 500-600kbps.

though Alltel is the domanant wireless network in Texas I am showing some poor coverage in your area, I submitted a request for a tower to be conisdered, but thats unlikely, I also checked the other carriers in your area, and it seems Verizon roams onto us, and AT&T is not good either, but Sprint has solid EVDO coverage in your area, you can go to this link Sprint Coverage and type in your exact address and click Data, Email, and Multimedia, and see for you exact address, you might also try calling Sprint, at 1-800-Sprint1, I highly recommend you give them a try

Wifi is great in the home, but a land line to the door wins every time.

that is the same speed any other carriers 3G network, and @ your other post, no carrier is perfect, every carrier has dead spots, even Alltel, I never said Alltel was perfect, and it was Alltel EVDO (at a 50% discount) or satellite with no discount

Wrong.
HSDPA can go at 1.8, 3.6, 7.2 and 14.4 Mbps
AT&T is at 3.6
TMobile is at 1.8
Rogers/Fido is 7.2
3 is at 3.6 or 7.2 depending on location
O2 is at 3.6 or 7.2 depending on location
Orange is at 1.8, 3.6 or 7.2 depending on location, but most are 3.6 or 7.2
Vodafone is at 1.8, 3.6 or 7.2 depending on location, but most are 3.6
Telstra, Indosat, StarHub, Batelco, Tusmobil, and Sercomtel Cellular are all at 14.4

I meant US networks only, and might I add that AT&T advertises 3.6 because thats what their card are capable of, you will never get that speed though, might I add that Alltel advertises 3.2Mbps, yet you will never get that, Alltel's trues speeds are 600Kbps 1.4 Mbps, AT&T's actual speeds are 700Kbps - 1.7Mbps, so technically AT&T is slightly faster, but not much, and I would not have a GSM carrier in the US, EVDO covers far more area than HSPA, and my source
